Responsibilities

The LVN Preceptor functions as a teacher and mentor in guiding, directing and supervising technical nursing activities of the nurse preceptee. Provides guidance and consultation when needed, regarding effective patient care and scope of practice. Creates formal and informal learning opportunities for peers regarding practice issues, technology and/or current research, identifies and intervenes when staff weaknesses are identified. The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care services requiring technical and manual skills, within the scope of practice, that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care, and meets the communication needs of the patient and family; Performs under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Demonstrates knowledge of EMTALA Regulations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.3. IV certification upon hire; Blood Withdrawal (BW) certification preferred.4. Completion of preceptor class within 60 days of employment.
