We are looking for a teacher who is committed to reaching all students, raising achievement through a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and supporting a school culture of excellence and joyful learning.The ideal candidate has experience with standards-based grading and is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community. The Art teacher will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their manager:Working with and for Students:Aligning curricular standards with state guidelinesMonitoring student progress through standards-based assessmentsAnalyzing student dataDifferentiating instructionSupport, plan and co-lead Service-Learning projectsAdvising students through daily Connections class (homeroom)Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management systemAnalyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessmentsWorking with and for Families:Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per yearCommunicate regularly with families about academic and social progressWorking with and for ColleaguesBuild and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievementWork collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school missionParticipate in weekly professional development sessionsParticipate in weekly grade level team meetingsInputting academic and behavioral data on the school data management systemWho You Are:You are a skilled educator. You have at least 1-3 years of experience teaching Art courses.You understand the importance of culturally responsive education. You have a proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body.You are values aligned. You are caring,committed, and collaborative with colleagues and families.Qualifications:Belief in the mission and vision of the schoolRelentless commitment to raising the academic achievement of all studentsCommitment to standards-based teaching and learningAbility to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful environment for studentsExperience working with a diverse student bodyExperience teaching a wide variety of 2D and 3D art including drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, sculpture and ceramics. Experience teaching college prep or AP 2D Art and Design as well as assisting students in college portfolio prep.Experience writing an innovative arts curriculum with a focus on developing student voice and choice in the art room.Ability to organize procedures and systems for materials and supplies within the art room.Excitement about integrating academics with service work.Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all studentsEagerness to be part of creating an innovative and rigorous middle and high school programPossession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTELs associated with the role.Degree in Art Education preferred.Preference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above, and:Are multilingual including in Spanish and English;Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum;Have similar life experiences as our students;Have a Master’s, PhD or EdD degree;Have National Board Certification;Excitement about integrating academics with service work;Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all studentsSalem Academy Charter School values a school culture that celebrates learning, and we believe that the adult culture in the school is the foundation of the school’s success.
