POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting directly to the Senior Pastor, the Praise Team Leader will facilitate the Praise Team providing musical leadership at the Innovative Worship (currently 10:30 a.m. on Sundays). This is a part-time position that requires weekend and evening work.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with the pastor(s) and other music staff to create meaningful and Spirit-filled worship.
• Lead the Praise Team singers, utilizing healthy vocal technique and strengthening their musicality during weekly rehearsals for Innovative Worship, solo/ensemble offerings and special events, including church holidays and evening worships.
• Select worship songs and musical offerings; communicate this information in a timely fashion to those responsible for leadership, slides and bulletins.
• Sustain repertoire of music appropriate for the Praise Team leadership of worship which enhances the assigned scripture and themes in worship and promotes a Lutheran understanding of the faith, with input from the Praise Team members.
• Recruit and coordinate singers and instrumentalists for the Praise Team and in collaboration with the Innovative Worship Coordinator and pastor(s).
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

EXPECTATIONS

• Be knowledgeable about the mission and ministries of Salem, and adhere to Salem’s .
• Excellent communication skills.
• Familiar with contemporary music and licensure and comfortable using a wide variety of alternative musical styles and sources of music to bring freshness to musical selections.
• Gain familiarity with the Revised Common Lectionary and church seasonal calendar.
• Motivated by achievement of goals, quick learner, self-directed, self-starter, capable of working both independently and interdependently with a team.
• Handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail and accuracy, including the set-up and tear-down of Praise Team equipment for worship and rehearsal.
• Able to exercise mature, discreet judgment.
• Capable of making independent and effective decisions and work without close supervision, while at the same time being open to constructive criticism.
• Sunday and evening work hours expected.
• Access to reliable transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrable ability to musically and spiritually lead worship and a musical group.
• Demonstrable experience in working productively as a member of a team that includes volunteers with a wide variety of ages, experience and proficiency as singers, instrumentalists and worship leaders.
• Proficiency in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Basic proficiency in computer skills, including Google Workspace.
• Demonstrate command of a wide range of repertoire for creative worship.

WAGES

• This is a 12-month, part-time position.
• 4 hours/week, including a minimum of 2 Sundays per month worship leadership with the Praise Team.
• $25-30/hour.
