Summer 2024 Job Opportunities Nurses & Students Support Staff, Salem Public Schools SY2024-2025 INTERNAL CANDIDATES PREFERRED

Seeking School Nurses and School Adjustment Counselors to work in their 5-week summer program for various age students. The programs will run from July 8 - August 9, program hours vary but will run Mondays-Fridays, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm.

Behavior Specialists are needed to support students in fully participating in the learning experiences and to help students reflect on and strengthen their social interactions with adults and peers. Behavior specialists are assigned to cohorts of students and provide support to these groups of students over the 5 weeks. They will also collaborate with the teachers and group leaders in facilitating SEL-oriented games and activities. Behavior Specialists work the full program day and will be paid the contractual rate. Teachers and paras supporting higher-need students as well as district behavior specialists will be considered for this position.

School Adjustment Counselor (SAC)

In accordance with the policy and procedures of Salem Public Schools, the School Adjustment Counselor (SAC) provides a spectrum of therapeutic interventions and supports to identified students and families. Counseling may be provided in individual or group settings. The SAC assists staff in delivering therapeutic social, emotional and behavioral support to all students. Support and services designated in the IEPs are a primary duty of the SAC and must be implemented with fidelity and aligned to the trauma-informed practices and embedded SEL curriculum of the district. The School Adjustment Counselor is considered an integral part of the student support team at their assigned building and collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals is integral to creating a safe, healthy, productive, and supportive learning environment for students.

School Adjustment Counselor Summer Responsibilities Include:

* Facilitate individual and group counseling interventions groups according to IEP goals, objectives and service delivery grids, using data to inform decisions and counseling efficacy

* Facilitate as-needed social skills groups and/or individual counseling supports on topics such as social communication and healthy relationship skills, conflict resolution, self-esteem, substance abuse prevention/healthy choices, social media, mindfulness practices.

* Conduct mental health assessments including risk assessments, suicide ideation protocols, and mobile crisis response protocols.

* Offer consultation and support to teachers regarding students with emotional or academic concerns and support teachers in implementing accommodations and support plans in the classroom and school community

* Collect and analyze data and use the information as the basis for informing counseling interventions and IEP goals

* Complete observations and assessments and be able to identify students with disabilities based on IDEA and knowledge of special education laws and regulations that govern the identification of children with disabilities

* Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments in consultation with behavior support staff and work with behavior specialist/staff and teachers to create and implement Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans

The School Adjustment Counselor is considered an integral part of a multi-disciplinary Summer Program team and collaborates with supervisors, teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, productive, and supportive learning environments for Salem's students during Summer Programs. The position includes supporting specific district-wide programs for students with social/emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and language-based learning disabilities, as assigned. SAC will be paid at their rate.

School Nurses

Summer Program Nurse Postings (3-4 positions)

Each nurse is responsible for meeting the routine and emergency medical needs of all students within the building. They will communicate clearly with families and staff about student medical needs and support their health and safety for the duration of the program. Each nurse must consult with District nurses to provide medication for students at their program site by collecting medication from families and/or the student's home school. Additional relevant duties are at the discretion of the site administrator.

Extended two-week program: 12:00-3:00, July 15, 2024 - July 25, 2024, Monday- Thursday

Middle School Program:

Program dates: Monday- Thursday, Jul 8, 2024 - August 9th, 2024

Program time: 8:30 - 2:30 PM

High School Program:

Program dates:

Monday- Thursday, June 24, 2024 - July 27, 2024

Monday- Thursday, July 8, 2024 - August 9, 2024

Program time: 8:30- 12:30 PM
