Career and Technical Education (CTE) Accounting/Finance Teacher and Work-Based Learning CoordinatorSaline Area Schools/South and West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC)Job DescriptionThe South and West Washtenaw Consortium is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to serve as both a CTE Accounting Teacher and Work-Based Learning Coordinator. This dual role is essential in providing students with robust educational experiences in accounting while also facilitating valuable work-based learning opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, a passion for teaching, and the ability to develop partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.

QualificationsRequired Education/Certification
  • Valid Michigan Vocational Certification in related CIP code (52.0800) or be eligible for Interim Occupational or Annual Authorization Certificate with a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the field within the past six years and willing to pursue required credentials.
Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Possess a valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with Endorsement in (GQ) or (GX) preferred.
  • Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator certification or eligibility to obtain certification is preferred.
Job Responsibilities & DutiesAccounting Specific
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting principles, financial statements, bookkeeping, and related practices.
  • Experience in developing and implementing CTE curriculum related to accounting and finance.
Work-Based Learning Specific
  • Develop and implement comprehensive WBL programs that align with state standards and industry requirements.
  • Assess students’ career interests, skills, and educational goals to match them with appropriate work-based learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate placement of students in businesses and organizations that provide relevant and meaningful work experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ progress and performance in their placements, offering support and guidance as needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations to secure a range of work-based learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with employers to ensure they understand the objectives of the WBL programs and the role they play in students' education.
  • Ensure all WBL programs comply with state and federal regulations, including labor laws and educational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student placements, performance, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to the appropriate authorities.
  • Work with CTE teachers to integrate WBL experiences into the overall curriculum, ensuring that classroom learning supports and enhances the work-based learning experiences.
  • Ensure that all work-based learning sites provide a safe environment for students.
  • Conduct site visits and evaluations to verify that safety standards and educational objectives are being met.
General
  • Maintain clear and complete communication with the SWWC Director and teacher.
  • Support a classroom climate that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the age and maturity of the students. Maintain a safe and secure environment that embodies trust and mutual respect.
  • Maintain student confidentiality. Demonstrate a professional demeanor with parents and co-workers.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues. Participate as requested in team or department meetings, IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and/or other committees as appropriate or assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Exemplary, regular, and predictable attendance is expected.
  • Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area of responsibility, and evaluates results continuously.
  • Assesses students’ achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet the individual educational needs of students in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, and student learning.
  • Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development as well as cultural competency.
  • Participates as part of Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary. Assists in the development and implementation of student IEP goals and instruction based on individual student needs.
  • Works cooperatively and communicates with District and constituent district staff, students, and parents/guardians.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records and appropriate reports.
  • Participates in district-level staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development/special programs, school improvement teams, and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
  • Regularly document student progress using assessment tools, monitoring through observations/evaluation, and/or collecting data. Uses student progress data to improve instruction.
  • Supervises and implements instruction for students in class and the community; directs the activities of teacher assistants in all areas of instruction and other activities.
  • Maintains accurate records in a manner consistent with state and federal law as required by the District.
  • Establishes and maintains open communications with parents, staff, administration, and outside agencies.
  • Exhibits emotional stability, exercises good judgment, and makes decisions per board policies and administrative guidelines, with minimum supervision.
Technical Skills
  • Explain and demonstrate appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the District.
  • Use computer technology for research, data management, communications, and other instruction.
  • Use a personal computer (PC) or MAC in a networked environment to utilize the Internet and other electronic communication mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software) is required.
