JOB TITLE: Finance Controller
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
GENERAL FUNCTION: In collaboration with the Medical Director, Operations Director, and respective department heads, the Finance Controller will direct and oversee the accounting and finance functions for the cancer center. The Finance Controller will provide financial and strategic analysis and reporting, paired with recommendations for improvements and steps to increase revenue for the organization. This role will collaborate with administrative department heads to compile, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations based upon qualitative and quantitative data about increasing revenue, improving overall financial performance, decreasing cost, strategizing opportunities for growth within the market, and fundraising within the community for patient financial aid funding and other key practice initiatives. This role will be hands-on in performing standard accounting transactions, monitoring, and enforcing compliance for use of company funds, and ensuring accurate and timely entry is maintained for all accounting datapoints to maintain efficient and up-to-date reporting. This position will direct and oversee financial audits as needed for both accounting and billing functions and will serve as the director for both accounting and revenue cycle staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Directs the financial goals and objectives of SCC to align with the values, mission, and vision of the organization, working with department heads and leadership to strive for excellence in patient care.
  • Provides financial research, analysis, projections, and recommendations for new service lines, proposals, and operational initiatives to align fiscal performance and accountability with operations of the organization.
  • Prepare, monitor, and modify the annual budget and provide high level fiscal accountability for SCC.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, annual, and other requested financial and finance-related reports to be presented to leadership and the board as directed or needed.
  • Strong leadership skills are required. Setting expectations with their team. Oversee accounting and revenue cycle staff to include daily functions such as payroll, accounts payable, collections, billing/coding functions, and financial compliance, monitoring performance of finance related tasks and revenue cycle tasks to ensure seamless operations are in place to support strong financial performance for the organization.
  • Work with payers and managed care systems to secure contracts that allow for excellent reimbursement for rendered services, differentiated share within the market, and/or optimized patient care outcomes.
  • Direct and coordinate annual processes with external auditors, analyze and make recommendations for internal changes based upon their reports and guidance for stronger internal controls.
  • Maintain adequate system of internal controls to safeguard SIM assets, inclusive of systems that protect inventory, company assets, and retention of knowledge for finance and revenue cycle departments.
  • Complete daily cash analysis to monitor fund availability and prepare monthly reconciliations, utilizing data to create cash flow projections and communicating these details to leadership routinely for transparency and collaboration within the management team.
  • Create, maintain, and improve relationships with external vendors, seeking out ways to improve contracts for cost savings, improved service offerings, and/or greater benefit to the organization and population served.
  • Accurately and efficiently prepare general ledger spreadsheet transactions, enters accounting systems, and provides account reconciliations that allow for verification of accurate entries completed by finance department staff.
  • Directs creation and updates to financial aspects of policy and procedure to support planning and eventual deployment of new service lines for SCC.
  • Directs financial aspects of planning and executing annual fundraising ventures.
  • Oversees internal control implementation, assists with budget preparation, ensures reporting compliance, and manages transaction reporting process.
  • Manages risk and preserves assets.
  • Other duties as assigned include managing cash flow, auditing, budget preparation, financial compliance, and cost savings. Mentoring other financial staff, supporting executive leadership team (Director of Operations and Director of HR)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
Bachelor’s Degree: Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or closely related field strongly preferred. A minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in healthcare accounting or finance in a provider of managed care setting is required with a demonstrable track record for increased responsibility over time. Advanced proficiency in excel is required for this role, in addition to strong technological skills. Experience with SAGE accounting software is strongly preferred. Experience with Paycor is strongly preferred. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience of direct employee management experience is required. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working directly with revenue cycle, billing/coding, and payer contracting is required for this role.
