Job Title: Inventory Accounting Supervisor

Essential Function

This position will be responsible for supervising a team whose responsibility is to analyze inventory transactions, report-out on issues and make recommendations on solutions where possible. This position will be a go-to for helping the team of analysts work through their most complex analytical scenarios and will be a point person in liaising cross-functionally to represent accounting findings. This position will supervise and make recommendations on corrective inventory transactions, data recovery and root cause resolution. This position will assist in the evaluation of company strategic initiatives’ impact on Inventory Accounting’s processes and systems, as well as support project User Acceptance Testing. This position will be responsible for building and maintaining effective working relationships with other Accounting groups and various IT groups dealing with multiple systems (developers and architects),. This position will create and provide reporting to assist the team with their day-to-day job function, and to deliver metrics and visibility throughout the SBH organization, including generating reporting for senior leadership. This position will coach and professionally develop the team of analysts.

Primary Duties

35% Day-to-day supervision: Plan, organize, and evaluate the day-to-day work of a team of analysts. Assist with the most complex business scenarios that must be analyzed, teaching along the way. Apply a sound understanding of accounting and control principles arriving at suggested corrective inventory transactions. Track, analyze and monitor inventory activity, transactions, and adjustments. Identify unusual adjustments, escalate, and pursue resolution, working with different departments and functions. Propose corrections and complete root cause analysis using systems and central databases to identify areas of opportunity and ultimately resolution.

30% Team development: Work with leader to define, create and maintain KPIs, metrics, as well as standard operating procedures. Develop tools to automate and streamline the team’s work. Participate in the recruiting and interview process to grow the team. Coach and develop the team, informally on a day-to-day and ad hoc basis, and formally in company-wide performance review and feedback cycles.

30% Cross-functional collaboration: Serve as the representative of the team in tracking and documenting all issues, and in daily cross-functional collaborative work with other groups. Assist in the evaluation of company strategic initiatives’ impact on Inventory Accounting’s processes and systems, as well as support project User Acceptance Testing. Develop and monitor communication tools and materials, including development of new reports as needed. Actively align with business and IT partners to prioritize needs. Recommend system changes, where possible and where appropriate. Coach team on working cross-functionally with a goal of building strong working relationships between teams at all levels.

5% Provide assistance in special projects and management requests as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Information Systems or related field, preferred
  • Accounting or Finance experience resulting in the ability to understand process flows, debits and credits, and impact on the general ledger
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting, finance or audit environment, or 3 years within the Company
  • Previous supervisory experience highly desirable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of and experience with SQL
  • Experience within a Sarbanes-Oxley environment desired
  • Some travel may be required, up to 5%

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
