SummaryUnder minimal supervision, is responsible for the investigation, documentation, evaluation, negotiation and resolution of claims made against SRP. Provides an efficient, prompt, courteous and equitable in-person response to large and serious personal injury, wrongful death, property damage and miscellaneous liability claims, both potential and actual.
What You'll Do
  • By direction from the Sr. Manager of Claims Services, operates independently in the field to conduct thorough investigations and evaluations of large and serious personal injury, wrongful death, property damage and miscellaneous liability claims, both potential and actual.
  • Responsible for evidence preservation and proper claim documentation, responsible for communicating and coordinating with the Director of Litigation and Claims Services to identify both triggering events and custodian(s) for legal hold direct issuance.
  • Interviews claimants, witnesses, police officers, and first responders, inspects damaged property and evaluates incident scene to determine extent of damage or exposure.
  • Interviews appropriate SRP personnel to determine the facts or circumstances surrounding an incident or accident in order to make a determination regarding potential company liability.
  • Identifies, retains, and works with expert witnesses, consultants, and a variety of vendors.
  • Seeks, collects, and analyzes statements of loss, invoices, bids, and other documented evidence to effectively adjust claims for alleged damage.
  • Reviews, interprets, and evaluates medical records and bills submitted relative to injury claims to determine potential exposure to SRP and value of claim.
  • Establishes proper dollar reserves to reflect SRP exposure to loss.
  • Evaluates and formulates decision as to payment or denial of claims. Recommends appropriate settlement ranges.
  • Identifies potentially serious and sensitive claims and advises management accordingly.
  • Conducts investigation of incidents involving damage to SRP property and makes recommendations regarding billing and collection of costs.
  • Consults with defense counsel or in-house staff attorney regarding matters in litigation and cooperates and supports counsel's investigation and defense of same.
  • Attends and contributes to litigation proceedings as directed. Assists with legal correspondence and discovery.
  • Handles special complaint and sensitive situations as directed by management.
  • Reviews loss and board reports and takes action to ascertain and ensure accuracy, validity, and propriety of report.
  • Prepares recap and summary of claims for review by management and subsequent presentation to the Associate General Manager, Legal Services, and the board of directors.
What It Takes To Succeed
  • Minimum 10 years of experience is preferred in investigation and handling of liability claims. Utility or electrical distribution experience is highly preferred.
  • Provides 24/7, on-call field response to accidents or incidents involving SRP property and/or personnel, both major and minor.
  • Ability to comprehend, investigate, validate, document, and resolve a variety of complex liability allegations.
  • Ability to legally and safely operate an SRP issued vehicle.
  • Ability to work both in office and in the field, year-round.
ExperienceA minimum of two years’ professional experience is required for Level 2 and a minimum of five years’ professional experience is required for the Senior Level.
EducationCompletion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.
Hybrid WorkplaceSRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
