SAMFORD UNIVERSITY is Hiring an Assistant Director of Data Reporting and Analytics Near Birmingham, AL

Description

Samford University seeks an assistant director to support the reporting and data analytics activities of the Advancement Services team in Advancement and Marketing. Working closely with the Director of Reporting and Data Analytics, the position will support the collection, storage, and maintenance of data for the purpose of analyzing results, donor trends, and behavioral data. Additionally, the position will manage processes related to the generation of tax receipts and pledge reminders. The assistant director will also coordinate with schools and/or areas as assigned to generate a range of reports as requested to advance the ongoing objectives of each area. In collaboration with Director of Reporting and Data Analytics, the position will identify and assess innovative utilization of systems (database, reporting, and other platforms) to manage data and create reports for the purpose of assisting leaders in decision-making through descriptive analytics to assist the university with achieving results. 

Job Duties

  • Provide advancement services support to enhance the strategic priorities and advancement initiatives of the university.
  • Prepare data and reports for Advancement and Marketing colleagues where self-service tools do not exist. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate information is updated in the database. Compile comprehensive lists for review, applicable approval, and final distribution.
  • Coordinate and engage with assigned schools and/or areas across campus to manage data requests, extract data elements, prepare reports, and understand reporting and data analysis needs. Consult with users to develop and implement complex reporting and analytical processes.
  • Manage data specifically related to donor giving that includes but is not limited to:
  • Administer gift tax receipt process for the university, prepare accurate and timely tax receipts for charitable gifts, save receipts in the data storage system for archival.
  • Process monthly pledge reminders.
  • Provide year-end tax summary statements per specific criteria and as requested by donors. 
  • Support a culture of continual improvement, displaying a willingness to evolve, adapt and forge new solutions that improve operational efficiency and/or effectiveness which guide departmental objectives. Evaluate systems (Banner, Argos, Teams, Excel) and processes to identify innovative solutions to improve productivity.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, while using independent judgment. Demonstrate the qualities of self-direction, professionalism, and sound independent decision making.
  • Ensure accuracy in a timely manner while assuming ownership for report and data quality, prioritizing those data requests that are time sensitive.
  • Possess a skill set in data reliability that comes from ascertaining, extracting, interpreting, and communicating data, which is both highly technical and autonomous.
  • Manage special data projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Reporting and Data Analytics and leadership in University Advancement.
  • Ensure all relevant data protection, information security and data retention/giving policies are adhered to while possessing the highest level of confidentiality and standards.
  • Respond to donor inquires in courteous and professional manner.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated work experience.
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills with ability to comprehend and interpret data.
  • Possess a systematic and logical approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to detect patterns between datasets that often lead to creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data processing with advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Teams. 
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, yet also manage time and work independently exercising prudent judgment and discernment to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Be organized and possess initiative and ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Be responsive and adaptive in a dynamic environment.
  • Possess attention to detail and appreciation of high level of accuracy.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to interact effectively with all levels within the organization.
  • Adept at learning new tools and technologies.
  • A positive, service-oriented attitude is expected in daily work with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
