Materials Sourcing Specialist

San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS), a San Antonio, Texas based privately held company, has been in business for over 40 years and has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality comfort footwear. 

Position:

SAS has an opening for a Materials Sourcing Specialist.

Job Responsibilities:

• Source seasonal and year round materials as defined by the Design and Development Department.
• Develop a working technical knowledge of the materials to be sourced.
• Maintain and review records of items developed, costs, deliveries, and product performance.
• Collaborate with Design and Development and Quality Assurance teams in evaluation of sourced material (color, aesthetic, technical and functional testing).
• Diversify raw material supplier base.
• Negotiate price with domestic and overseas suppliers based on market fluctuations and quantities.
• Function as a liaison between design, manufacturing, purchasing, and scheduling teams. 
• Fulfil material requisitions as assigned
• Contact preparers of requisitions to resolve questions, inconsistencies, or missing data.
• Makes necessary corrections in the system to maintain data integrity.
• Filing, data entry, and organizing on a daily basis.
• Travel to material shows with the Design team, both domestically and overseas to find innovative materials and new vendors.
• In addition, other duties as assigned. 

Job Qualifications:

• Able to adapt to new technologies and techniques to increase productivity and keep technical skills up to date.
• Skilled at identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner.
• Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers. 
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. 

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Five years sourcing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX is a plus.
• Computer proficient in Microsoft- Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Advanced Excel skills required.
• Position involves some travel within and outside the U.S and requires physical ability to travel globally on commercial transportation.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical labor is often necessary for 8 hours or more per day with breaks approximately every two hours including sitting, standing and walking.
• Work will be conducted in a climate controlled office environment.
• Ability to input data (typing) into a computer for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
