San Antonio Water System is Hiring a Geographic Information Systems Technician - Asset Management Near San Antonio, TX

Grade 17 // Starting Hourly Rate: $22.9365. Rate of pay depends on qualifications. 

JOB SUMMARY
The Geographic Information Systems Technician in Asset Management is responsible for providing a high level of technical support for the data conversion and/or creation of spatial data in support of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for SAWS Asset Management Program. Prepares GIS mapping projects to illustrate linear and vertical utility projects, qualify findings, and analyze for cause and effect. This position manipulates a variety of related data to produce digital and hardcopy GIS products. This position assists in the update of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) water main failure prediction model using data stored in the GIS and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inputs textual and geographic data for preparation of GIS mapping, CMMS analysis, and special projects.
  • Researches, interprets, and analyzes data records for projects.
  • Assists in the development of GIS-based risk modeling programs using AI and machine learning software.
  • Applies map projections and geo-referencing with GIS raster and vector data.
  • Ensures data integrity from conversion operations and ensures data is set to standards.
  • Performs data input using coordinate geometry, digitizing, file transition, and importation.
  • Organizes, maintains, and archives computer files.
  • Develops and utilizes Geodatabase (GDB) information for GIS related projects.
  • Applies knowledge of civil engineering design, municipal infrastructure, utility systems, map projections, and an understanding of coordinate systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING
  • Works under limited supervision.
 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, Management Information Systems or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
OR
  • Two years of college with coursework in Engineering, Geography, or a related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Three years' experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer aided drafting and design software, cartography, and technical drafting applications.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design of municipal infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of symbols and terminology in civil engineering drawings.
 JOB DIMENSIONS
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and job related software
  • Ability to utilize data management software (spreadsheets and databases), geographic information systems software, and digital mapping techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers, vendors, management and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally. Subject to walking, sitting, bending, and stooping to perform job scope. Working conditions are primarily indoors with limited exposure to outdoor adverse weather and traffic conditions and other safety/health hazards. Also operates a SAWS vehicle and equipment on a periodic basis.
