Safety Monitor/Sitter

$20.50 Hourly rate

Part-time 24 hours, 2 weekends on and 1 weekend off.

Shift Schedule: AM Shift 6:45AM - 3:15PM

Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care. This includes the Frank Residences, offering luxurious assisted living and memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and an acute psychiatric unit specialized in mental healthcare for older adults over age 55; and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.

Grounded in the Jewish values of dignity, compassion, and community, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living, fondly referred to in the past as "the Jewish Home," was founded in 1871. Today, 150 years later, it continues to build upon its legacy of enriching the lives of older adults.

What you’ll do as a Safety Monitor/Sitter:

  • Provides communication of resident/patient behavior or symptoms to the nursing staff and/or interdisciplinary team
  • Provides companionship and basic care to patients/residents as directed.
  • Ensures patient/resident safety by preventing falls and injuries, constantly observing resident/patient.
  • Act as escort and accompany patients/residents to appointments/activities.
  • Assigned to patients or residents exhibiting the following symptoms:
  • Danger to self (threatening to harm self and capable of doing so; suicide ideation)
  • Danger to others (serious threat to injure other patients, residents, or staff)
  • Inappropriate behavior with other patients/residents (exposing themselves; touching residents/patients inappropriately)
  • Wandering into patient/resident rooms and not redirectable
  • Must be constantly vigilant of patient/resident activities to ensure the patient/resident is safe.
  • Must maintain a therapeutic relationship with patient/resident.
  • May be assigned to multiple residents to ensure their safety.
  • May assist the resident/patient to eat and drink, but may not feed patient/resident (may cut up food; may hand finger food to patient/resident; may NOT feed patient/resident)
  • Maintain a neat, organized environment for the patient/resident.
  • Responsible for changing bed linen if needed and bed is unoccupied.
  • May assist with AM and PM care: set up bathing/oral care supplies for patient/resident to do themselves, or for the CNA to assist the patient/resident.
  • May not provide personal care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in a long-term health care setting working directly with residents, families and staff preferred
  • Kind, empathetic, patient attitude
  • Able to establish rapport and work with patients/residents with challenging behaviors.
  • Creative approach to problem solving.
  • Bi-lingual preferred: English, Spanish, Cantonese or Russian
  • Cultural sensitivity to Jewish traditions
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach.
  • Fine motor skills
  • Good visual acuity
  • Perform tasks listed above with or without the aid of mechanical devices.
