Job Title: Director of Behavioral Health Services
Location: Onsite at San Francisco Office (not eligible for remote) 
Reports to: Managing Director
Classification: Full Time Permanent, Exempt

Role Summary:

The Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for working with the organization’s leadership team to develop the health center’s portfolio of wrap-around behavioral health services. The Director will work toward ensuring and implementing BH services within the “four walls” of our clinic, at our various drop in spaces, at our shelter for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and with our street medicine and outreach efforts. The Director will oversee, coordinate and integrate the agency’s mental health, psychotherapy and gender affirming care services. This role will provide support, assistance, leadership and vision to maximize high quality, low barrier clinical service delivery and timely reporting from a harm reduction, trauma informed approach. The Director will also represent the agency when convening with community partners and funders. This role will protect and steward the integrity and reputation of San Francisco Community Health Center and its mission.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the agency’s behavioral services programming, including psychotherapy, substance use care, gender affirming care services, crisis intervention, clinical consultation and social work.
  • Work with leadership to develop strategies for growing, enhancing and maintaining a diverse portfolio of behavioral health programs
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate the performance a diverse team of mental health providers, enhanced care managers and necessary support service staff.
  • Develop and implement workflows, policies and procedures to ensure ongoing low barrier access to behavioral health services.
  • Participate as a member of the organizations QI team to monitor and evaluate all programmatic and clinical activities.
  • Nurture and develop strategic community partnerships and manage ongoing partner relations to ensure ongoing growth of behavioral health services portfolio.
  • Continue to develop and oversee the agency’s crisis interventions policies and procedures alongside the team's leadership.
  • Ensure ongoing mental health support, coverage, and consultation across programs and act as a behavioral health resource for all staff.
  • Ensure high-quality and timely delivery of services and reporting, in compliance with all requirements of funders.
  • Carry a small caseload of high acuity clients therapy clients as needed.
  • Monitor client utilization and behavioral staff productivity to insure timely patient access to services, as well as cost efficient services.
  • Monitor and ensure the implementation of performance improvement plans for all behavioral health services.
  • Establish and coordinate services to ensure clinical integration and the continuity of care for the Health Center’s clients.
  • Review clinical notes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all the regulations pertaining to Behavioral Health Programs.
  • Review policies and procedure to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure evaluations and professional development plans are completed on time.
  • Ensure staff is provided sufficient opportunities for internal and external training.
  • Oversee Behavioral Health internship program.

 Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent (LCSW preferred).
  • 5 -7 years of experience in a health care settingworking with marginalized and vulnerable communities, and multiply diagnosed clients from communities of color, the LGBTQ community, those facing homelessness, and substance use.
  • Proven ability to provide culturally responsive programs to support the needs of the diverse clientele.
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning and deployment of effective interventions in primary health care, mental health, substance use, and social service systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to read, understand, and write extensive narrative, numeric and statistical reports.
  • Must obtain TB clearance and complete background check upon hire.
  • Vaccinated against Covid-19 with initial dose(s), complete with booster shot(s) and able to provide proof.
  • Current with vaccinations especially seasonal flu and able to provide proof. 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Experience with Enhanced Care Management (ECM) programs.
  • Experience working in an FQHC or other type of Community Health Center.
