Job Title: TransLink Peer Ambassador (Part-time)
Location: Taimon Booton Navigation Center (not eligible for remote)
Reports to: Shelter Operations Manager

The Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC) is our shelter and service center for transgender, gender non-conforming, and cisgender women, to find sanctuary, community, and a pathway to housing.

Role Summary: 
 TransLink is an innovative, peer focused initiative designed to significantly reduce the risk of substance use, HIV infection, STI and viral hepatitis infections among homeless and unstably housed Transgender women of color living in San Francisco. The TransLink Peer Ambassador will be based at TBNC, providing support to the TBNC staff and guests. The Ambassador will also conduct street-based outreach, resource navigation, and in-person assessments to determine health goals and eligibility for programs. In addition, the Ambassador will provide 1:1 peer coaching, and group facilitation. The TransLink Peer Ambassador will provide support and connection to current TBNC guests, and any other eligible clients served by other SFCHC programs.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct street-based outreach activities to unsheltered Transwomen of color by traveling to areas in San Francisco where the target population frequents such as encampments, community center, etc.
  • Provide peer support and coaching to TBNC guests. 
  • Collaborate with the TBNC Prevention Navigator to connect clients to essential services such as medical care, housing resources, food programs, case management, and community building activities. 
  • Provide linkage and navigation to substance use, HIV, and Hep C testing and treatment. 
  • Provide STI, HIV, and HEP C health education to guests.
  • Attend and successfully complete all required training programs.
  • Participate in ongoing conference calls, webinars, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in required department, inter-departmental and agency-wide meetings, trainings, and activities, which may include some evening and weekend hours. 
  • Facilitate group workshops or activities that encourage community building and peer support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Available to work a flexible schedule, to include weekdays, evenings, and weekends, as needed. 
  • Familiarity with issues and concerns of Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.
  • Six months of experience in a community or client-facing social service delivery program. 
  • Six months experience with harm reduction, client-centered counseling, and motivational interviewing. 
  • Be able to provide customer service in an effective, courteous, and friendly manner and meet the needs of diverse clientele.
  • Experience working in a multi-culture and multi-racial environment.
  • Competent and comfortable working with LGBTQ communities. 
  • Demonstrated reliability and good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, written communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks with a sense of urgency.
  • Role model positive behaviors and the ability to reframe negative thoughts/actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, complete with booster shot(s) and able to show proof of vaccination.
  • Must provide proof of most recent flu vaccine. 
  • Must obtain TB clearance and complete background check upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Spanish, Vietnamese, or Arabic speaking 
  • Experience working in diverse areas of San Francisco.
