Sanchez- Student Success is Hiring a Teacher – Behavior Interventionist – Special Education Near Tempe, AZ

TITLE: Teacher – Behavior Interventionist – Special Education (2 vacancies)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To facilitate coordination of a positive learning environment that enhances the social and academic development of general and special education students who are experiencing behavior difficulties in the classroom..

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Arizona Standard Elementary K-8 Teacher Certification, Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher certification or Special Education certification with EDA specialization
  2. Master Degree in special Education, counseling, psychology or related field (preferred)
  3. Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in schools in related field
  4. Good knowledge of applied behavior analysis, behavior management, de-escalation techniques, systematic observations of behavior, functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans, and on-going progress monitoring
  5. Experience in consultation/collaboration with teachers
  6. Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability
  7. Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty
  8. Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff, and parents
  10. May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint
  11. Obtain and maintain current NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification
  12. Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office, MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development, design, and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties.
  • Assist with the instructional process in the classroom through observation, consultation, and demonstration, as related to students experiencing behavior needs.
  • Support and train staff in data collection and on-going progress monitoring techniques.
  • Assist in the “least restrictive environment” efforts of school personnel.
  • Provide a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques to building staff.
  • Train staff and administrators in strategies to increase student’s prosocial behaviors, and provide follow-up consultation as needed.
  • Plan, conduct, or participate in trainings and departmental meetings.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student’s needs.
  • Maintain accurate records for compliance with district, federal and state guidelines.
  • Maintain daily Medicaid logs and time study.
  • Maintain behavioral crisis of students.
  • Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
