Sanctuary Hostel is Hiring a Remote Co Executive Director Cross Border Animal Welfare Startup

Co-Executive Director Cross Border Animal Welfare Startup

About Sanctuary Hostel

Sanctuary Hostel is an innovative nonprofit startup working to address the stray crisis all over the world, starting with Mexico. Our unique approach to addressing this problem involves building an eco-hostel that drives community-based animal welfare through educational programs. Our model plans to be self-sustaining in that we will not rely solely on donations and thus not be at risk of returning animals to the streets.

We currently have the land and architectural designs, and are actively fundraising for construction of the facility. As we continue to grow, we expect to collaborate and work with other nonprofits in both Mexico and the US to achieve our mission. Visit for more details.

Volunteer Co-Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the volunteer Co-Executive Director (ED) will collaborate with our other Co-Executive Director on overall strategic and operational responsibility for Sanctuary Hostel’s staff, programs, and execution of its mission. Together they will initially develop deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, and growth plan. Our Leadership Team meets biweekly, typically on a weekday at 5PM or 6PM Pacific time. Candidates with Startup experience or experience dealing with ambiguity and building from scratch highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Actively engage and energize Sanctuary Hostel volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders.

  • Ensure ongoing financial reporting, nonprofit administration & compliance, fundraising & communications planning and implementation.
  • Ensure effective systems to track and evaluate progress and effectively communicate measured success to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Collaborate with Development Lead to expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion while simultaneously retiring building debt.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities and grow Sanctuary Hostel's presence and impact.

Planning & New Business:

  • Build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders at each location.
  • Be an external presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.
