Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Operations Maintenance Supervisor, performing primarily the upkeep and maintenance of landscaped areas, and immediate village area. Secondarily perform general maintenance work on roads, Tribal facilities, buildings and equipment.
Supervision Exercised
Reports to the Operations Maintenance Supervisor who takes direction from the Public Works Manager.
All other direction will be by Public Works Manager or Director.
When called upon, follow the direction of Tribal Administration to assume duties in preparation or clean-up for various functions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs basic landscape and grounds development and maintenance tasks including, planting, cultivation, weeding, mowing, trimming, irrigation, fertilization, pruning and spraying.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs associated power equipment.
- Maintains existing fences and installs new fences as needed.
- Layout, install, operate, maintain and repair associated irrigation systems.
- Lay out and install landscape systems.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter/debris, refinishes paved surfaces, cuts weeds, sweeps walkways and shovels snow.
- Responsible for the care, maintenance and inventory of associated supplies and equipment owned by the property and/or the Pueblo of Sandia.
- Using hand and power tools, performs basic building construction and repair tasks.
- Operates, maintains and repairs associated power tools and equipment.
- BISON range management: Evaluates range condition, health of animals, and conducts pasture rotations, barn and property maintenance and cleanup. Hauls and maintains hay bale inventory, Assist with weaning, vaccinations and when called upon butchering.
- Bale Wagon Operator: Maintains a quality environment through cooperation collaboration while hauling bales for community farmers. Responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of Bale Wagon. Being helpful, supportive and giving prompt attention to Bale Wagon services.
- Farming of Community fields and Orchard, Applies agricultural practices: Develops and maintains the community Farm. Duties include but are not limited to, Harvesting, irrigating, planting, cultivating, weed control, mowing, fertilization, spraying, pruning and collection of seeds. Operate, maintain and repair a small greenhouse.
- Boundary fence maintenance and repair: Performs and constructs various types of fence, using basic fencing techniques.
- Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
- Responsible for daily upkeep of the property buildings and grounds which includes cleaning and removing of trash.
- Responsible for thorough knowledge of the Pueblo of Sandia policies and property community policies.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Haul equipment, furniture, material, or items directed by Management or Tribal Administration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess knowledge of plant characteristics, landscape layout and development.
- Possess knowledge of principals of landscape maintenance.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and to supervise and direct work to others.
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment used in landscape and grounds installations.
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in landscape maintenance.
- Ability to use hand and power tools in building construction and repair.
- Ability to make basic repairs to mechanical, plumbing and electrical installations.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.
- Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures and reporting requirements.
- Ability to perform duties considering the full use of Personal Protective Equipment without restrictions.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
Preferred:
- Previous experience.
Licensing Status
- Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
- Must not have been convicted of a DUI in the past three year from the date of hire.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any other licenses and/or certifications as determined by management.
- Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
