Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.SummaryThe Research Assistant will support the daily operations of the lab and execute experiments for different researchers in the lab. This is a grant-funded position responsible for drosophila husbandry, data acquisition, molecular biology, microdissections, troubleshooting problems, and general upkeep of the lab. Over the course of this position, the lab will perform experiments for the NIH, NASA, CIRM, and other agencies. - Assist researchers in rearing Drosophila and Zebrafish for experiments.
- Operate lab equipment per instructions and troubleshoot issues.
- Prepare chemical stock solutions and fly food for the laboratory.
- Manage inventory and perform purchasing requests for the lab.
- Designs, reviews, and implements research protocols with scientists in the lab.
- Performs experiments in Molecular Biology, Microdissection, Fluorescent Labeling and Imaging, RNA-FISH, Immunohistochemistry, and Genetics.
- Maintains a safe working environment.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biology (research experience preferred)
- Fluorescence immunohistochemistry and microscopy techniques
- PCR and Cloning
- Biological assays
- Experience with classical genetics of Drosophila Melanogaster preferred
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent manual dexterity to perform microdissections.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Possess strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills.
- Able to work on a deadline-driven schedule.
