SUMMARY:

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for the analysis and reporting of cost data, ensuring the integrity of financial information, and supporting management in strategic decision-making. This role involves overseeing cost control, financial planning, and analysis related to the production and inventory processes within the organization

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Monitor and report on inventory valuation, inventory reconciliation, and cost variances.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of financial information.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans.
  • Analyze budget variances and provide detailed explanations for discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment with budgetary goals and financial targets.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and presentations for management.
  • Support strategic decision-making through detailed financial modeling and analysis.
  • Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle counts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Evaluate and implement inventory control systems to minimize waste and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory transactions and adjustments
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls related to cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction within the production and inventory processes.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Provide training and support to junior staff and other departments on cost accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA, CMA, or other relevant certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to establish sound working relationships.
  • Travel up to 10%.
  • High initiative with the ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Ability to organize inputs to generate a customer driven output.
  • Ability to repurpose existing technologies or create new innovations to solve problems.
  • Detail & deadline oriented; well organized.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact with staff on all levels.
