(SCBT) is a world leader in the development of products for the biomedical research market. For the past thirty years, SCBT has specialized in the development of research antibodies, biochemicals, labware and it has more recently expanded into animal health care products.

Santa Cruz Biotechnology has an immediate opening for an entry level Laboratory Assistant at our Santa Cruz, CA campus. We have full time positions with career advancement opportunities within the company.

This position will perform routine tasks in support of analytical and preparative procedures required for the purification, analysis of antibodies and associated reagents used in the scientific community.

Required Skills:

• Ability to label product vials; retrieve samples from storage; prepare various chemical solutions and cell culture media by using analytical and preparative balances, pH and conductivity meters and other instruments; sterilize laboratory supplies and reagents by using an autoclave or filtration device.
• Capacity to assist in the assembly of laboratory equipment and assay devices.
• Capacity to perform routine laboratory maintenance, such as: cleaning laboratory instruments; processing laboratory glassware and plasticware manually and by using an automated dishwasher and dryer; and, distributing these items to laboratory storage locations.
• Capacity to assist in maintaining the laboratory by cleaning floors, benches, etc., removing waste materials.
• Ability to monitor laboratory constant temperature storage devices and check proper operation.

Desired Skills:

• Ability to work in a team environment, but also capable of working independently.
• Some prior laboratory experience a plus.

Education and Experience: Position requires at least one year of undergraduate study toward a BA or BS degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or related field, and an excellent academic record.

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
