Santa Maria Urban Ministry is Hiring a Nonprofit Executive Director Near San Jose, CA

Job Description

Full time - (part-time scope is also an option)

The Executive Director (ED) of Santa Maria Urban Ministry (SM) is responsible for the overall strategic, operational and financial management of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED collaborates with the BOD, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to fulfill the organization’s mission.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide vision and leadership to ensure the continued growth and success of Santa Maria Urban Ministry.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture and work environment to motivate, maintain and attract dedicated staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with operations manager to oversee programs and staff and volunteer support.
  • Engage with existing partners and develop new partnerships to further the effectiveness of SM’s programs and impact on the community.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors and operations manager develop and implement strategic plans that align with SM’s mission. Ensure consistent and timely progress. Meet the goals and objectives created.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson and advocate for the organization.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive donor engagement and fundraising plans to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, government agencies.
  • Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain regular communications - including newsletters, social networking, Web presence - to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of special events and fundraising campaigns.

Financial Performance and Viability:

  • Develop and manage annual budget and ensure financial health and sustainability of the organization.
  • Oversee the financial management and accountability of the organization, including monthly and annual financial reporting to the Board.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and reporting requirements.

Community and Public Relations:

  • As primary spokesperson for the organization, represent SM at community events, public forums, and media opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, partner organizations, and public officials.
  • Actively enhance the organization's public image to expand interest and support.

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with staff and partners to oversee design, marketing, promotion, volunteer support for delivery of quality programs and services.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact and potential for programs and services, using data to drive improvements and innovations.
  • Ensure programs are aligned with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.

Personal attributes:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and donors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrated financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute and drive results.
  • Proficiency in using technology and software relevant to communications and nonprofit management.

Requirements:

· Nonprofit management experience serving low-income, multi-cultural,

communities through social services programs;

· Collaborative team leadership skills;

· Volunteer development and management experience;

· Proven track record in development and fundraising;

· Effective written and verbal communication skills;

· Bi-cultural awareness required. Spanish/English bilingualism strongly preferred;

· BA degree, or equivalent work experience, in nonprofit management, business

administration and social work.

About the Organization

Santa Maria Urban Ministry prides itself on being a saving grace neighborhood resource just south of downtown San Jose that helps those facing challenges of insecurity in their lives. Our food pantry is staffed with community volunteers and open daily.

The mission of SM is to feed the body, mind, and spirit of the individuals by providing them with supplemental groceries and other basic services, educational programs for all ages, and opportunities to give back through volunteer service.

SM is a Second Harvest Silicon Valley food pantry distributing upwards of 100,000 pounds of donated food monthly. As well as groceries, SM provides clothing, household items and referral services to other agencies. SM supports long-term transformation through education, tax filing assistance and other programs to address seasonal needs.

Since our beginning, we have listened to community needs and started new services to empower families and individuals to transform their circumstances.

SM seeks to promote self-sufficiency among its clients and provides various services six days a week. Most of the families served have at least one adult member with a full-time job. Yet, for many, the job is at minimum wage. More than 60% of those served are children. A majority of those served are Latino.

Founded in 1983, SM is an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real. Santa Maria welcomes and serves people of all faiths or none.
