The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce is a business membership organization focused on impactful networking, effective advocacy, and building a thriving business community. Membership recruitment and retention is key to building a successful Chamber.
The Chamber is seeking to hire a full-time Membership and Events Director who will oversee the Chamber’s membership recruitment, retention, events and marketing efforts. The Director will lead the Membership Ambassador program and events, marketing and social media outreach.
The Director must be familiar with businesses in Santa Monica and live in or near Santa Monica. The Director must have significant and successful membership sales experience and be a joyful people person who loves selling, creating events, engaging with businesses, and love the Chamber!

Duties:
Set up a plan for membership engagement and retention and execute the plan
Meet weekly via zoom or in-person with the CEO identifying goals, metrics, deliverables, and achievements/successes
Provide quarterly updates to the Board of Directors
Plan and lead Membership Orientations
Plan, organize, promote and run monthly mixers, coffee connections, and ribbon cuttings that include morning, afternoon, evening and weekend events
Assist with the Chamber’s signature events
Plan, organize, and delivery membership events and promotions
Be a chief story teller about chamber businesses
Attend group classes, eat at restaurants, and attend events in Santa Monica not related to the Chamber but are events held by Chamber members
Learn and navigate the Chamber’s CRM
Complete monthly retention calls and meetings providing a compelling message why chamber membership is important
Meet with members and build successful relationships
Engage in the community to know the business ecosystem
Use research, resources, and creative means to identify and reach out to new members
Send out letters to expired members and follow up with cancellations
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
The Director must have significant professional experiences and several years working in a highly professional office.
Work Environment:
The Chamber is currently in a “work from home” status but anticipates that an office will be secured soon and all staff will be required to be in the office 5 days per week. This position requires many evenings and weekend events to coordinate and oversee. The Director will be required to manage and attend zoom meeting with camera on. The Director must have their own personal computer, phone, internet, and Microsoft 365, Word, PPT, and Excel to use for this position but will be compensated for such equipment.

The position is full time, fast paced, results driven at 40 hours per week including weekdays, weeknights, and weekend hours and events.
Compensation is $45,000 to $55,000 base pay plus commission and full benefits with the potential could be up $100,000 or more depending on sales ability.
