Greenhouse Operations Manager

Purpose

Santa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Horticulture Manager to join our team. As the Horticulture Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of greenhouse growing, maintenance, and upkeep all floral and plant arrangements in the park, as well as our on-site greenhouse. Your leadership skills and expertise in managing greenhouse operations will be crucial in ensuring the highest quality of horticulture and customer service. This position works directly with the Facilities Manager, as well as the Grounds Operations Manager.

Functions and Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the daily operations of the Greenhouse growing and maintenance process
• Coordinate and oversee park planting, bed and box upkeep, and weeding of all plants, trees, and flower arrangements park-wide.
• Coordinate daily watering of park gardens and plants
• Coordinate daily pruning of trees and shrubbery
• Grow and maintain Perennials and Annuals on tight deadlines throughout the year
• Facilitate and maintain plant health, identify and determine any potential plant diseases, along with diagnosis and treatment plans
• Ability to design and install future plans for the park, as well as determine and implement soil readiness for these plans.
• Handle customer inquiries, complaints, or concerns in a professional manner
• Daily supervision of seasonal Landscape assistants

Knowledge and Skills

• Have working knowledge of pest control procedures in a greenhouse setting
• Extensive knowledge of soil conditions, fertilizer, perennial care, and how to improve all processes for future seasons
• Knowledgeable on common plant and flower names and types
• Must be a forward thinker to plan for future seasons, while still operating in current season
• Must have strong love of plants
• Must be able to weed beds as well as prune and shape trees and shrubbery
• Willingness to teach others proper garden techniques
• Must know park geography and be able to assist guests with park information
• Must possess a courteous and friendly rapport with guests and co-workers

Physical Demands

Position requires constant reaching, stretching, stooping and climbing up and down stairs. Must be able to handle extensive walking and standing. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Working Conditions and Environment

Full time, year round position which may include weekends and holidays. Position is mostly outdoors, however some greenhouse work applies. This position does not have support staff, so the ideal candidate will be able to work independently on a consistent basis. This position is extremely fast-paced and requires the stamina to adhere to tight timelines and outdoor physical demands.

Job Requirements

• 3 or more years of experience bedding plants in a greenhouse environment preferred
• Degree in Horticulture or other related field preferred
• Valid Driver’s License
• Mechanical knowledge and skills preferred
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
