Sapphire Health Services is currently seeking a dedicated Recreational Therapist to lead our team and uphold our commitment to excellence.Job SummaryRecreational therapists employ leisure activities to help patients with disabilities or illnesses. Through the use of games, sports, crafts, and more, they maintain their patients' physical and emotional well-being. In doing this, they also help patients integrate into their community via group activities. Exercise sound judgment and decision making in the development, coordination, and administration of all activities within the facility, in accordance with facility policies and procedures and all applicable state and federal laws
Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct all activity services with the community.
  • Assume administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of supervising all department functions.
  • Assume the development and maintenance of written department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of written job descriptions and performance evaluations for each position.
  • Assist employees in interpreting and using departmental policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Prepare necessary reports, budgets, forecasts, etc., as needed and/or directed.
  • Proactively plan and budget for equipment, supplies, and labor.
  • Provide information to prospective and current residents about the activity program.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an ongoing quality assurance program for the activity department.
  • Participate in various committees of the facility as necessary and/or directed.
  • Provide written and/or oral reprimand as required and/or directed.
  • Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees.
  • Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other activity employees as deemed necessary to perform their job functions.
  • Meet with the activity employees on a regular basis to communicate current issues, solicit advice, and improve services and teamwork.
  • Maintain and utilize department budgets as directed
  • Maintains a professional demeanor in the midst of verbal or physical aggression.
  • Develop and implement an activity program that meets the needs of the residents. Assure that activity programs are adaptable to the resident's interest and participation level.
  • Organize and assist in coordinating a facility Resident Council
  • Document the residents' participation level.
  • Complete the initial and required resident assessment according to State and Federal regulations.
  • Other related duties and needed and/or directed.
Requirements
  • Must hold a current Recreational Therapist Certificate
  • Must be knowledgeable of relevant regulations.
  • Must be able to develop and successfully implement programs and services.
  • Must possess leadership abilities and a willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must be able to effectively supervise and manage personnel.
  • Must be able to work and deal with people in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with others
  • Must demonstrate computer proficiency utilizing word processing, accounting, database, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must be able to utilize Universal Precautions where required.
  • Must be able to meet the attendance expectations (be at work on time and as scheduled).
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed/scheduled.
