What You’ll Be Doing
Work closely with all operations managers and their safety teams in implementing all safety related portions of Savage’s S7 System
Development and delivery of procedural and regulatory training
Lead Business Unit operations in prevention of injuries and losses
Lead Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) efforts in the Power Plant Unit
Establish a proactive SH&E process towards incident prevention
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements
Work with onsite Safety Specialists and Lead Safety Specialists to be an extension of SH&E and ensure team members follow proper safety rules and processes, and utilize the tools to prevent incidents
Implement and conduct training to ensure all Team Members are properly trained to perform their work safely
Ensure regulatory (EPA and OSHA) compliance; ensure all permits and reports are properly completed and submitted
Interface with key customer SH&E contacts and assist operations in implementing and executing customer-driven programs or emphasis areas (including involvement with each Plant’s Contractor Safety Team activities)
Own the Safety Specialist Program for the Business Unit
Ensure incidents are properly reported to internal and external parties
Assists in start-up of new business, products, and processes
Lead Savage team on customer safety audits
Provide strategic coaching and mentoring for direct reports
Lead the root cause investigation process when events happen
Spend time visiting the operations and time in the field with the front line team members
Track leading indicators to address trends within the unit
Gives and receives support to other operations when needed
Perform safety inspections and observations at operations
Responsible for growth, development, and continuing education and certification of SH&E supervisors (building bench strength)
What You Need To Be Successful
Broad knowledge and understanding of safety, including OSHA, yellow equipment, bulk material handling, with some knowledge of environmental and rail best practices
Ability to analyze situations and data and make sound decisions
Experience delivering training preferred
Computer skills (MS Office Suite)
Excellent communication skills: written and spoken; excellent organizational skills & multi-tasking

Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelors Degree in Safety or related field
8 years’ experience in a safety leadership role
8 years’ experience working in an industrial setting (conveyors, yellow equipment, rail)
Holds a safety certification recognized by an accredited organization (CSP, SMS, OHST, or CET).
Coal-handling experience is preferred
Physical Requirements
40% travel required
Ability to climb ladders, racks, and tanks
Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
Ability to work indoors in office environment, as well as outdoors in changing weather conditions
Willing to always wear appropriate PPE when needed and set the example
