Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is Hiring a School Nutrition Program Registered Dietician Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Registered Dietician ensures that nutritionally all menus developed meet the needs of students while maintaining compliance with all State and Federal Guidelines as they relate to the National School Breakfast [NSBP] and National School Lunch Program [NSLP]. Provides program support for all PreK-5 schools.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and training.
Preferred : Master's Degree

Experience, Skill, and Certification:

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in foodservice operation or Public-School setting.
  • Two years' experience working in a role directly related to developing or monitoring foodservice menus.
  • Must be a registered Dietician.
  • Must hold or maintain Georgia State Licensure [Licensed Dietician]
  • Completion of GaDoe required O.N.E. (Orientation for Nutrition Employees) and Manager Pathways, and Culinary Pathways within one year of hire.
  • Valid ServSafe Food Manager Certification issued by the National Restaurant Association or ability to obtain certification within the first 90 days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Extensive understanding of the area of dietetics as it relates to school-age children.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State guidelines pertaining to the school meal program
  • The ability to interact with co-workers, school-based personnel, and parents.
  • Strong knowledge of meal program accounting and reporting
  • Knowledge in areas of foodservice computer applications and inventory control
  • Ability to organize work around broad organizational goals and processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and has attention to detail.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Speaks tactfully and courteously with staff and the public. Is sensitive to the cultural, developmental, religious, and ethnic diversity of students and the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Works with a Team to plan menus and develop recipes that meet all federal and state guidelines.
  2. Monitors and audits school nutrition menus, production records and student participation.
  3. Participates in food purchasing activities, including bid specification qualities and awards.
  4. Completes a nutritional analysis of all menus and recipes.
  5. Assists with product selection and bid development for all foods to be used in the SNP.
  6. Assists and advises school nurses, teachers, administrative personnel and parents in providing for the nutritional needs of students with special dietary restrictions.
  7. Aids in planning and implementing department professional learning and training for SNP employees.
  8. Conducts and coordinates food tests with students, staff, and cafeteria employees.
  9. Prepares and submits monthly Nutrition Newsletter to department webpage highlighting health and nutrition tips for students and parents.
  10. Works closely with vendors and suppliers in the bidding and delivery of goods in accordance with SCCPSS policy.
  11. Interfaces with cafeteria managers to ensure uniform compliance and understanding of the foodservice program.
  12. Makes recommendations that may positively impact the budget while increasing student participation.
  13. Educates students and parents regarding healthy food choices through school training and outreach.
  14. Presents the foodservice program to parents and staff to assure understanding and positive public relations.
  15. Works in conjunction with SCCPSS District Wellness Team to promote nutrition education activities for students, parents and community.
  16. Assists as necessary with professional leaning for school nurses, teachers, school-based administrators and district-level administrators.
  17. Participates in professional organizations and continuing education in school nutrition to gain knowledge beneficial to the continued progress of the SNP.
  18. Proactively engage with students, staff and community to identify foods and services that lead to increased participation in the SNP.
  19. Pursue awards to promote district nutrition initiatives and recognition.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the SNP Executive Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. This position is considered to be "essential personnel, critical staff" when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. The work calendar will be 229 days.
