Pay: $23 per hour

SBCS’s ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Parenting Prevention for Fathers program will use the evidenced based curriculum 24/7 Dad to support the engagement, participation, and development of healthy parenting skills for fathers. Program includes a range of small groups and large presentations combined with monthly activities for the whole family. 

Responsibilities: The Family Support Specialist, under the supervision of the Program Director, and Department Director, is responsible for providing evidence-based prevention and early intervention services to fathers and their children. This includes presenting curricula to small groups and large groups, as well as arranging outdoor activities for the whole family. This position may include travel between work and various community sites throughout the week. Other responsibilities include working closely on a day-to-day basis with community members, institutions such as churches, schools and detention facilities as well as working closely with other SBCS staff. Services will be in keeping with the agency goals, objectives, mission, and style provided within a team framework.

Duties:

  • Facilitation of daily, evidenced-based groups utilizing 24/7 Dad curriculum through in-person and virtual group settings.
  • Conduct outreach and recruiting of program participants.
  • Conduct behavioral health assessment and outcome measures, including goals and objectives, with participants and their children.
  • Available to work non-traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends to support participant and program needs.
  • Provide case management, crisis intervention, group facilitation, and other services relative to program goals and objectives.
  • Participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with other team members.
  • Conduct outreach activities in the community. 
  • Collect data, input case notes, and maintain case records and client files in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) and mHoms databases as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
  • Assessment and case planning on each participant enrolled in the ACE program.
  • Develop and implement recreational programming for families. 
  • Gather input on the needs and desires for outside recreational activities. 
  • Plan and facilitate community activities for families.
  • Facilitate other group presentations including financial literacy workshops, and other specialized topics.
  • Participate in community-based meetings as requested or required. 
  • Coordinate contacts with other public and private organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients. 
  • Participate and assist in implementing program components.
  • Maintain client case files in accordance to County and Agency standards; 
  • Adhere to agency and County client confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting policies.
  • Attend all agency required trainings, staff and team meetings, individual supervision and clinical group supervision and other activities. 
  • Participates in special projects and activities, as related to agency’s goals and objectives.
  • As other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences and/or related field required. 
  • Minimum 1-year of experience working with youth and families; experience should preferably have been in a school setting or community-based organization, 
  • Shared life experience and/or relevant experience as a father. 
  • Must possess an ability to work with a diverse cultural population, as well as abilities to take initiative, set goals, and prioritize. 
  • Must be organized and computer literate. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with virtual meeting software is preferred.
  • Ability to handle case sensitive information.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), Child Abuse Central Index Check (CACI), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program. 
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC), in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy. (Approximately 30% - 50% of the time.)

Physical Demands:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
  • Moves throughout the building. 
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
