General Description:

Under the direction of the superintendent, the individual in this position will provide leadership and direction, while also creating a collaborative work environment for teachers and support staff. The Principal will implement the district’s goals around student achievement and growth, wellness and mental health, and uphold all school policies and district handbook guidelines to ensure a high quality learning environment for all. The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of all students and staff. 

Qualifications:

• Possess a valid Michigan School Administrator certificate
• Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate
• Administrative experience preferred
• Classroom teaching experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership skills in planning, instruction, decision-making, supervision, conflict resolution, evaluation, group facilitation with adult learning, and public relations
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences
• Ability to effectively communicate to staff, parents, and the general public
• Demonstrated knowledge and practice in teacher performance evaluation, school improvement, innovative secondary instructional models, MTSS model, PBIS, and Restorative Practices
• Demonstrated achievement in closing persistent achievement gaps 

Performance Responsibilities:

• Interact with all students in a positive manner to encourage performance at their highest level
• Supervise building staff and conduct regular staff meetings
• Assist in placing teachers in classroom assignment
• Assist in creating the master schedule in conjunction with district leadership
• Provide general supervision/discipline to students
• Oversee extracurricular activities in conjunction with coaches and mentors
• Evaluate performance and effectiveness of programs and staff
• Engage in the IEP process and facilitate the ongoing implementation of the IEP and behavior support plans
• Maintain positive relationships with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies
• Participate in and support the development of district-wide activities, professional learning, and committees
• Implement policy and procedure changes from the Board or the State and Federal level
• Oversee your department budget(s) and work with the business manager on budgeting/ purchasing
• Establish priorities to meet the needs of students and teachers through work with the School Improvement Team and collaboration with staff and parents
• Work with central office personnel to coordinate processes for effective functioning of the school
• Facilitate the use of quantitative and qualitative instructional data to support the school improvement process and daily actions of teachers to inform instructional decision making
• Identify and engage in his/her own professional growth in shaping the principal’s professional practice

Salary and Contract:

The Suttons Bay Public Schools Board of Education will provide a competitive compensation package. The actual salary and fringe benefits will be commensurate with the education and experience of the candidate. The work year is 220 days. The starting date for this position is by August 1, 2024.
