Schaumburg Township District Library is Hiring a Director of Digital Services Near Schaumburg, IL

Join an award-winning Library! The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for Director of Digital Services to join our team. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Director of Digital Services to support the Library’s online services and resources, Technology Learning, and Innovation Space.
This full time, hourly position working 37.5 hours a week during library hours, to include some nights and weekends on rotation.
Our schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The annual salary range for this position is $70,473-$88,082 based on skills and qualifications.
Position SummaryThe Director of Digital Service is responsible for overseeing all of the Library’s online services and resources, Technology Learning, and Innovation Space. The Director of Digital Services is also responsible for establishing standards for digital content of online services.
Under general direction from the Deputy Director, is responsible for the operation of the Innovation Space, technology classes and programs, staff technology training, and overseeing the Library’s online databases.

Requirements And Skills For The Position
  • Ability to use workplace technology including email, internet, intranet, word processing, spreadsheet, and Library database systems; along with industry technology including integrated library systems, research products, and position specific technology including innovation-based technologies, personal computers, and mobile devices across a wide-range of platforms, digital content management systems, and digital resources.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, board of directors, business community members, and patrons.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Essential Duties And Responsbilities
  • Supervise the daily operations of the Digital Services Department area including: the Innovation Space, Technology Learning, all online services, eResources, and collections.
  • Hire, train, supervise and conduct annual performance evaluations for the Digital Services Department personnel.
  • Develop, track and monitor assigned operating budgets and produce reports.
  • Record and analyze statistics; write reports as needed.
  • Lead the design, implementation and evaluation of new services that support library initiatives, department objectives and community demand.
  • Train staff and patrons on the use of new software and online services.
  • Oversee technology training, troubleshooting and other potential services to the public and staff using the Library’s catalog and eResources.
  • Ensure department staffing meets the needs to operate two service points.
  • Assess patrons’ needs effectively and efficiently, either in person, over the telephone, or in writing.
  • Stay informed of current trends, emerging technologies, issues and research in librarianship and allied fields.
  • Provide public service assistance at the department’s two service points; Answer patrons’ general ready-reference inquiries and directional questions about the Library, the Branches, and its services.
  • Provide patrons with the accurate information about the resources available at all Library locations.
  • Serve as “Person in Charge” of Library.
  • Manage and complete special projects, as requested.
  • Plan, develop and evaluate new services, as it relates to the department.
  • Keep apprised of products, services, technology applications, and trends; proactively seek out and recommend areas for improvement and innovation.
  • Instruct patrons on the use of the Library’s reference materials, Innovation Space equipment, the online catalog, and the Internet.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Library’s circulating collection.
  • Maintain relationships with technology vendors, service providers and other technical partners.
  • Stay informed about the names of officials, organizations, clubs, businesses, schools, social agencies, etc., in the greater Schaumburg area.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the services and practices of the Illinois Library System.
  • Keep apprised of the offerings of neighboring public and special libraries.
  • Manage time to maximize productivity; work individually in a self-directed manner or as part of a team.
  • Maintain professional involvement in the library science industry.
  • Refine or enhance reference skills by readying professional literature and attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
  • Represent the Library at regional and national professional meetings; attend meetings and trainings as required or requested.
  • Keep apprised of Library programs, policies and procedures to most effective assist patrons.
  • Maintain working knowledge of computer systems, Innovation Space technology and technology needed in the position or as an employee.
  • Attending meetings and trainings as required or requested.
  • Directly supervise Digital Services Department employee(s).
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and discipling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational And Experience Requirements
  • Masters of Library Science (MLS degree) from an accredited ALA accredited university or school is required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience that includes technology programming and/or makerspace work in a public library.
  • Minimum of three years direct supervisory experience.
