Schneider Downs & Co., Inc. is seeking a Controller with government contracting expertise to join its Washington, D.C. based M&A and corporate advisory practice. In this role, you will provide consulting, M&A and controller-related services as part of a collaborative team. A strong understanding of the nuances associated with federal government contracting including indirect cost rates, the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and working with Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) is required. Candidates should have a positive and proactive attitude, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to plan and prioritize competing tasks as needed. To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), be familiar with government cost accounting regulations and cost principles and the FAR and be proficient with Excel (especially pivot tables and BI tools) and Word. The ideal candidate will have previously served as a controller for a federal government contractor and be based in the Washington, D.C. area, and prior M&A experience is not required.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Perform accounting activities within a federal government contractor including revenue recognition, and oversight of the monthly close inclusive of month-end accruals, month-end closing entries, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare 13-week cash flow analyses
  • Provide budget and cost variance analyses monthly as part of a monthly business review
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior staff
  • Work with external accountants and other external advisors
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned
  • Support DCAA audits and Incurred Cost Submission preparation, including the development/calculation and analysis of indirect cost rates
  • Assist and support the annual financial statement audit
  • Process and procedure development

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
  • Minimum of eight years of experience with general accounting; minimum of five years of experience in a government contracting environment; minimum of three years of experience as a controller for a federal government contractor is required
  • Experience with a variety of government contractor ERPs, such as Unanet or Costpoint, is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) is required
  • CPA licensed preferred
  • Detail-oriented, professional attitude, reliable, team player
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, research and resolution skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement, problem-solve, and implement efficient processes
