SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. RE-1, VALLEY is Hiring a Payroll Accountant Near Sterling, CO

Hagen Administration Center; 301 Hagen St Sterling, CO 80751
40.00 hours/week, non-exempt 260 days
Salary: $51,189 - $67,122; negotiable depending on experience

Job Goal: To contribute to staff morale by the prompt and accurate handling of all payroll matters. Essential Functions: Performance Responsibilities:
  • Setup and maintain online time and leave tracking system; act as primary contact for employees and payroll vendors.
    • Train employees in proper use of the online time and leave tracking system.
    • Troubleshoot errors; correct employee errors or work with vendors to resolve as needed.
  • Receive, compute and prepare payments for all payrolls, making deductions as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and check for proper agencies covering all deductions.
  • Prepare all tax forms relating to payroll matters. Federal, State Income Tax, Colorado Unemployment and Colorado PERA
  • Calculate garnishments and submit payment to proper agencies.
  • Communicate with employees and supervisors regarding time sheets, pay rates, and payroll questions.
  • Maintain understanding of fund accounting and validity of expenditures under specific funds and grants as applicable.
  • Understand and coordinate direct deposit processes with banking institutions.
  • Provide appropriate information requested by financial institutions, social services, social security, or other valid requests for employment verification.
  • Serve as backup for other business office positions as needed, temporarily assuming all related duties and expectations.
  • Collaborate with other district employees as requested.
  • Perform duties as requested by supervisor or Superintendent.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: 1. Accounting or payroll experience in a medium to large workforce; related degree/certification preferred.
  • Competent use of computers, financial software and business machines. Infinite Vision software preferred, not mandadory.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Essential Functions: Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Busy office with fluctuation of workload based on pay periods; ability to calmly answer staff questions regarding paychecks. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, adding machines and facsimile. Job duties would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand as necessary.
