Job Title: Farm to School Consultant
Position Description: The School District of Bayfield (BSD) is looking for a Farm to School Consultant to help plan and scale Farm to School (F2S) activities. This is a 2 year, temporary/part time, year round position for the duration of the USDA Farm to School Action Planning Grant cycle beginning August 2024. This position will engage in outreach, traditional Ojibwe food harvests & education, and help increase local food served at Bayfield Schools.
Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience (professional, life, volunteer) working cooperatively with community-based organizations
• Understanding of cultural, social and political history, issues and dynamics of Tribal populations living in northern Wisconsin
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners
• Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Experience using collaborative leadership and team building to accomplish project goals
• Commitment to equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities
• Experience facilitating and guiding diverse groups of people toward a common goal
• Experience in an educational setting preferred

Responsibilities And Duties

• Host listening sessions & create surveys of the communities involved in order to develop a plan for F2S activities at BSD
• Map scope and sequence of existing food sovereignty & agriculture education at BSD
• Assist in planning of traditional food harvests for Bayfield students including maple syrup, wild rice, fish, herbal plants
• Support agriculture education programming of Farm to School at BSD
• Help maintain Bayfield Schools’ gardens during the growing season
• Co-create a comprehensive plan for expanding Farm to School activities at BSD with Education & Agriculture Coordinator
• Create local sourcing memorandum of understanding with local producers and/or other local Districts to increase consistency of local food served at BSD
• Create legacy documents for food service directors and educators at Bayfield School to ensure the sustainability of F2S programming in perpetuity

Salary Range: $20 hourly/ approximately 20 hours weekly with flexibility; Total of 1,750 hours over the 2 year period of the USDA F2S Grant
