School District of Lee County is Hiring a Director, Labor and Employee Relations Near Fort Myers, FL

The School District of Lee County is currently seeking a talented Director, Labor and Employee Relations to join our team. This role will provide leadership while developing and coordinating policies and activities of the Labor and Employee Relations Department. This role specifically supports the Labor and Employee Relations function of Human Resources to include collective bargaining and positive labor management practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Five (5) years of human resources management experience with a focus in labor and employee relations.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • SHRM-CP or SCP certification.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Clear and concise oral, written, and public communication skills; leadership and strategic thinking skills; analytical, organizational, and management skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local statutes, laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and current research-based best practices governing public education and the functional area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of advanced principles and techniques of project management, planning, training, budgeting, and supervision.
  • Ability to analyze data and use data-driven decision making to implement effective programs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during stressful and highly visible situations.
  • Ability to motivate, lead, and challenge a diverse team and establish objectives and action plans to achieve District goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, and delegate to employees.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to the organizational needs.
  • Knowledge of employment related laws and regulations for the State of Florida as well as the Public School District.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement strategies to establish and maintain positive relationships with labor unions.
  • Manage and oversee the relationship between the employer and its workforce.
  • Foster positive labor relations, resolve conflicts within the workforce.
  • Lead collective bargaining negotiations and contract administration, ensuring fair and mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Stay abreast of changes in labor laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and recommend necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
  • Develop and oversee employee relations programs and initiatives to create a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Address concerns and conflicts, conducting investigations as needed and implementing resolution strategies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to employee conduct, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance to ensure that the organization’s labor and employee relations policies follow federal, state, and local laws.
  • Collaborate with the board on updating and communicating policies related to labor and employee relations, ensuring clarity and consistency.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, management, and union representatives to promote understanding and cooperation.
  • Develop and implement training programs for managers and employees on topics related to labor and employee relations, compliance, and conflict resolution.
  • Mediate and resolve disputes between employees and/or between employees and management.
  • Advise, coach, and guide managers on using best practices to handle employee relations issues and disciplinary actions.
  • Utilize data and analytics to assess labor and employee relations trends, identify potential issues, and recommend proactive solutions.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on labor relations metrics and activities.
  • Contribute to the development of overall HR and organizational strategies by providing insights and recommendations based on labor and employee relations expertise.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align labor and employee relations initiatives with the organizations mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve labor and employee relations programs and practices based on feedback, best practices, and organizational needs.
  • Participate in the standard leadership meeting cadence.
  • Develops and implements departmental budget.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.

Minimum Base Compensation: $111,877.84 annually

Work schedule 255 days/year
