Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Implements current district science curriculum that is grade level appropriate.
- Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of science curriculum goals, and establishes clear learning targets and success criteria for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- Implements school improvement plans and strategies.
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
- Collaborates with Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium on a regular basis for support in implementing the intended science curriculum.
- Implements formative and summative assessments of student progress to drive instruction and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
- Works cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
- Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
- Prepares for assigned tasks and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by laws and district policy.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes and/or performs or provides assigned duties and services in the locations and at the times designated including: in-person instruction, hybrid instruction, asynchronous and/or synchronous instruction.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Appropriate Illinois Educator License
- K-9 Elementary Education Endorsement (Gen Ed Science Teacher in Monolingual Building Only)
- Dual Language Buildings:
- K-9 or PK-12 Bilingual Education-Spanish Endorsement (Dual Language Science) required.
- K-9 Elementary Education and K-9 or PK-12 ESL Endorsement (Gen Ed Science Teacher in Dual Language Building Only) required.
- (Century Oaks, Channing, Coleman, Creekside, Glenbrook, Hanover Countryside, Harriet Gifford, Heritage, Highland, Hillcrest, Hilltop, Huff, Laurel Hill, Liberty, Lincoln, Lords Park, Lowrie, McKinley, Nature Ridge, Oakhill, Ontarioville, Otter Creek, Parkwood, Ridge Circle, Ronald O’Neal, Sunnydale, Timber Trails, & Washington)
- Knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards (CCSS 2014).
- Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards.
- Knowledge of Phenomena driven, Inquiry instructional strategies is preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement the RtI process and tiered instruction and interventions.
- Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- This is a 9-month position.
- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
