Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Assess referred student’s vocational and academic strengths and weaknesses in relationship to vocational opportunities for the purpose of ensuring realistic vocational goals by providing recommendations to students, teachers, and parents.
- Promote vocational and transitional assessment services for the purpose of identifying students eligible for transition assistance.
- Schedule vocational assessments.
- Assist teachers and related staff for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing students’ vocational skills.
- Participate in IEP meetings.
- Coordinate employer and school partnerships for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives.
- Monitor student’s job location for the purpose of ensuring compliance with pertinent child labor laws, insurance guidelines and safety.
- Organize guest speakers and field trips to job sites for the purpose of exposing students to a variety of work environments, educational and/or training programs.
- Prepare a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents, staff; providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.
- Work with representatives of participating community and state agencies serving students’ vocational needs for the purpose of complying with program guidelines.
- Teach students in vocational skills (e.g. work requirements, interviewing skills, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for employment.
- Coordinate programs for parents on issues related to Transition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work descriptions.
- Teaching certificate with LBS1 endorsement.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
- Knowledge of various disabilities and how it affects employment.
- Ability to supervise support staff.
- Ability to coordinate work experiences both in the community and in school for students identified with special education needs
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work with many interruptions through the course of the day.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials including the ability to lift up to 30 pounds with proper technique.
- Nine month position
- Performance of the position will be evaluated with provisions set by the Board of Education as per contract.
