Scion Staffing is Hiring a Nonprofit Interim Director of Finance Near Minneapolis, MN

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Nonprofit Interim Director of Finance for our wonderful nonprofit healthcare organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota! This incredible role will focus on supporting the growing finance team and leading all day-to-day finance operations while overseeing a small team. This full-time, interim position is for immediate hire and is fully remote with candidates located in the Minneapolis area strongly preferred.

The Interim Director of Finance manages all accounting and financial activities of the agency, ensuring robust operational controls, effective administrative processes, and reliable reporting systems to uphold the agency’s financial stability and efficiency. Partnering closely with the CEO and Board of Directors, this role provides strategic direction and vision, driving the organization toward its mission and fostering positive relationships with staff, funders, and community partners. Additionally, the Interim Director of Finance champions an equitable and inclusive work environment, emphasizing fiscal responsibility, accountability, staff engagement, and commitment to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overseeing the organization’s overall budget and communicating progress towards financial objectives to all relevant parties.
  • Acting as a specialist in daily accounting functions, ensuring asset control, proper resource utilization, and accurate, timely reporting.
  • Creating a dependable cash flow projection process and reporting system that maintains a minimum cash threshold to meet operational needs.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvements, cost reductions, and system enhancements, and managing capital for expansion.
  • Monitoring financial performance by analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances with accurate and timely financial analysis.
  • Managing accounting processes and ensuring the smooth operation of the organization through the hiring, training, and supervision of staff.
  • Evaluating and advising on the financial impact of strategic planning, new programs, strategies, and regulatory changes.
  • Assisting budget managers in overseeing their contracts, departments, and program activities, providing education on effective financial management, and ensuring efficient budgeting and forecasting.
  • Keeping the CEO informed of financial and operational issues, identifying risks to the organization’s financial or operational health, and helping to develop risk mitigation strategies for potential contingencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience in accounting and finance management, showcasing increasing responsibility. Demonstrated expertise in general accounting, cash management, financial analysis, strategic planning, budget management, and forecasting.
  • Extensive senior management experience in finance/accounting, demonstrating leadership with high integrity.
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills required), financial systems (such as Intacct and ADP), and insurance billing systems (such as Procentive).
  • Proficiency in a second language other than English is preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience or a strong passion for working with target populations (including LGBTQ , African American, multi-racial communities affected by HIV, HIV-positive individuals, and those engaging in risk behaviors for HIV) are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • MBA or other advanced degree in accounting, finance, business, or management.
  • Over 10 years of financial management experience, demonstrating leadership with high integrity and financial expertise in the nonprofit, human services sector.
  • More than 15 years of comprehensive, hands-on financial management experience, including skills in financial management, budget preparation, management, and analysis.
  • Experience with grant compliance and government contracts is strongly preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In addition to an hourly range of $74-79/hr. (DOE), this role provides medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week.
