Job Description
Job Summary
The AVP, US L&H Financial Reporting is responsible for the management of all financial reporting to regulators, rating agencies and other external parties, ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of financial, audit and tax information on multiple reporting bases for the organization. This position requires expert knowledge of Statutory and U.S. GAAP standards. In this role, the AVP will manage a team of accounting professionals and ensure that regulatory statements and filings are prepared completely, accurately, and in accordance with regulatory standards. This position will also work cross functionally with other members of leadership, both within Finance and across the organization, and should be prepared to consult on how certain matters and transactions need to be considered from a regulatory reporting perspective.
Responsibilities
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Lead, inspire and develop a team of financial professionals to enhance the reporting function and to make a positive impact on the SCOR culture.
  • Excellent human resource management skills to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group; ability to motivate, influence and direct the activities of others, to achieve results through team efforts capitalizing on the team's diversity.
  • Build and foster strong cross-functional relationships across the business. Help the company understand how all the pieces fit together and drive performance. Strengthen the team's partnership and influencing skills and help support the Finance team's mission.
  • Responsible for leading through change and developing financial professionals.
  • Responsible for driving the financial reporting of all reinsurance companies, including three operating companies, three captives and one offshore company, for IFRS, U.S. GAAP and NAIC Statutory reporting bases.
  • Manage the timely and accurate completion and submission of Quarterly and Annual Statements (Blue Books) for all reinsurance companies to the domiciliary regulator in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Statutory reporting bases. This includes the annual submission of Risk Based Capital (RBC) on both bases, as well as required state-specific filings for licensure purposes.
  • Manage the Statutory and GAAP audit process with external and internal auditors ensuring adequate supporting working papers and reconciliations for Audited Statutory/Regulatory Statements.
  • Review and provide work-papers, supporting schedules and reconciliations for preparation of tax returns and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit.
  • Manage and coordinate state exams as required by State Examiners, including review and preparation of work-papers and supporting documentation.
  • Review and provide information for rating agencies' questions and surveys.
  • Keep up to date on latest changes in Statutory and U.S. GAAP reporting to ensure they are correctly and consistently reported in the Regulatory Financial Statements across all SCOR entities.
Qualifications
Required experience & competencies
  • 10 years of insurance accounting or auditing experience; including experience developing, implementing & controlling financial reporting procedures/practices.
  • CPA or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • 5 years of managing financial professionals.
  • Experience developing & monitoring statutory & GAAP financial reporting.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; proven success communicating effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • General understanding of insurance industry terminology and concepts.
  • Strong organization & problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple priorities/projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; ability to motivate & develop staff.
  • Ability and willingness to work additional hours to meet challenging deadlines even in areas beyond direct responsibility.
  • Insurance and/or reinsurance accounting experience and education, preferred.
  • Familiarity with various accounting software applications/database systems, preferred.
  • Team player comfortable with a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or equivalent combination of education & experience, preferred
