Scorpius Biomanufacturing is Hiring a Director of Facilities and Engineering Near San Antonio, TX

The CompanyScorpius BioManufacturing is a boutique biologics CDMO providing cGMP manufacturing, bioanalytical, and process development services for protein modalities. Our San Antonio, Texas facility specializes in working with start-ups, emerging biotechs, and academic researchers. Position SummaryReporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Facilities and Engineering will be responsible for building and leading the Site Facilities Team and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and functions in the manufacturing plant. This includes utility maintenance, facility and building support, Metrology, and Safety. The Director will also be responsible for all aspects of the company’s maintenance strategy and work closely with department managers to ensure that the plant is operating efficiently, and all equipment is compliant with regulatory requirements at Scorpius BioManufacturing .
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to the Facilities Engineering Team and establish key processes and practices.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs for all equipment and utilities in the biotech manufacturing plant.
  • Develop and implement company strategy for maintenance outsourcing.
  • Oversee the maintenance budget to ensure that resources are being used effectively.
  • Provide expertise in the implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities and calibrations follow regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a team of maintenance technicians and engineers to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Identify areas for improvement in maintenance processes and implement changes to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers to ensure that the plant has access to the latest technologies and maintenance services.
  • Work closely with other department managers to ensure that the plant is operating at peak efficiency and that all equipment and facilities are properly maintained.
  • Manage outside contractors.
  • Provide capital project estimates and lead project once approved.
  • Provide support to the EHS Manager and ensure programs and practices are followed.
Education & Experience
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent experience in industry - a minimum of 20 years’ experience in Facility Management of a biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • 15 years of leadership experience with continued increases in responsibility
  • Experience in Managing contractors and leading large capital projects.
  • Experience in implementing and managing a CMMS, outsourcing of maintenance activities, managing maintenance budgets and schedules.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organization and leadership skills.
  • Excellent regulatory knowledge of cGMP, or other relevant skills especially establishing internal and external quality systems and processes.
  • Prior experience in dealing with FDA and other regulatory agency personnel and understanding of their requirements/expectations.

  • Be a self-motivated, customer-oriented person with abilities to inspire and lead others.
  • Excellent communication skills for all levels for both internal and external clients.
  • Work professionally with colleagues and maintain flexibility with work projects.
  • Think and work both tactically and strategically to provide operational needs to Scorpius’ business.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, to support staff and customer inquiries or complaints as well as communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong understanding of FDA regulations and cGMP requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements And Working Environment
  • Flexibility is required for working hours. Some weekend work may be needed and earlier or later start/finish times may also be required.
  • While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
