Department Summary

Investment Banking, a division of Global Banking & Markets, is responsible for transaction generation and execution on behalf of our clients. These responsibilities include identifying and originating opportunities, structuring of appropriate solutions, managing transaction processes, reviewing and negotiating related documentation.


Purpose
: The Associate Director (also known elsewhere as Vice President) will work closely with the respective Director/Managing Director to manage client relationships, pitches and live transactions.


Position Highlights
: The role focuses on public and private companies within the global Technology sector. The candidate will also work closely with other Global Banking & Markets partners including Corporate Banking, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets, Sale and Trading and other product groups.

The candidate will have oversight of the junior resources who are responsible for the execution and support of senior-level professionals on transactions, preparing pitch and / or presentation materials, and providing the work product required to ensure the Bank’s clients and potential clients are well-served in all facets of their financial requirements. The candidate will also assess each junior level banker’s current workload, client roster and capabilities to ensure there is fair distribution and allocation of work.


What You’ll Do

  • Working with Directors and Managing Directors to execute their day-to-day deal/client related activities
  • Leading all financial and strategic advice and capital raising activities, including but not limited to of client pitches, financial modeling, product partner coordination, and managing client interactions
  • Preparing internal committees’ memos across the various product lines (M&A, ECM, DCM and more)
  • Helping with structuring equity raises, debt raises and M&A transactions while ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures
  • Dividing up work between Associates and Analysts and checking work output and quality
  • Mentoring and developing junior bankers’ skillsets and capabilities with a team-oriented approach
  • Speaking with clients and potential buyers, sellers, and investors during pitches and live mandates
  • Learning how to develop new client relationships and transaction opportunities
  • Developing relationships with new potential clients, at least as the VP becomes more senior and moves toward the SVP / Director level.


Accountabilities
:

  • Drives a customer focused culture throughout the team, especially as it relates to Analysts and Associates, to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Assists Directors and Managing Directors in transaction structuring and execution, as well as general corporate finance activities (e.g. financial modeling analysis and review, valuations, advisory)
  • Serves as a deal team lead in the execution of mandated engagements directing the development of financial models and marketing materials, conducting financial and industry due diligence, and coordinating investor outreach
  • Directs day-to-day activities of Analysts and Associates
  • Creates an environment in which the deal team pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Drives a high-performance environment culture and contributes to an inclusive work environment


What You’ll Bring

  • 5-8 years of investment banking experience
  • Product Expertise across Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions transactions
  • Knowledge of all products and credit processes to facilitate prompt execution of transactions
  • Knowledge of other product areas including Corporate Banking, Equity Capital Markets, as well as working knowledge of various relevant legal documentation requirements
