Job SummaryThe Finance and Business Support Officer role is an integral part of our team who will help contribute to the achievement of our objectives within the annual Business Plan. You will play an essential role in the provision of a constantly evolving financial and administrative support service to colleagues in Scottish Forestry’s Edinburgh and Conservancy Offices.
You will have a varied role, supporting change and improvement, and taking responsibility for both specific projects as well as undertaking team tasks. We will work closely with you to ensure that you have a full understanding of Civil Service procedures and the finance and administrative duties required.
Job DescriptionYou will perform a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, those listed below:
  • Provide finance support including processing and input of invoices, raising purchase orders, liaising with suppliers and running financial reports.
  • Provide budget support to the Finance and Business Support Manager which involves updating spreadsheets and the identification and correction of accounting anomalies.
  • Assist with procurement related activities and processes helping to ensure policies and deadlines are met.
  • Manage internal and external mailboxes which includes dealing with public enquiries and attend to incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Support the Corporate Clothing Contract Manager by ordering staff clothing requirements in line with policy allocations, maintaining records of these.
  • Deliver and maintain records for Health and Safety resumptions such as Driving at Work checks.
  • Provide support with onboarding of new staff as well as staff departures.
  • Provide general people support services including travel and accommodation bookings, and other purchasing requests.
  • Assist with ad hoc finance and business support tasks when required, which could include undertaking audit checks, performing the payment run or creating and maintaining guidance / desk instruction documents.
Person specificationEssential:
  • Good numerical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive and efficient with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Confident and articulate in written and oral communication and with excellent customer care skills.
  • Strong demonstrable IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook.
Desirable:
  • Previous use of Finance systems, for basic knowledge of processes, such as inputting invoices and raising purchase orders.
