Operations Purpose: We deliver Reliability and Life Extension Products and Services with excellence in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner. We provide Technical direction and support for the Organization. We value our members and customer relationships.
Position Purpose: This position supports the organization and specifically Engineered Products with decisions and expertise in several areas. These areas include not only transformers and transformer repair, but high voltage power systems in general, down to the distribution of that power within a plant setting. There are also research and developmental requirements for instrumentation and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Works with a newly emerging area of Fleet Management.
    • Analyzes, evaluates and compile TS Condition Assessments that take into account oil qualities and processing, repair, the Load Tap Changer (LTC), Transformer Electrical testing, Infrared and other pertinent data.
    • Contributes in managing projects such as transformer provision and transformer reconditioning.
    • Understanding and learning basics of transformer reliability w.r.t. Electrical Testing.
    • Coordinates and helps manage accounts with key Reliability Customers who come to SD Myers for expertise in making and then keeping their electric power systems reliable.
    • Create one-line diagrams, ideally taking into account the entire substation and then how it distributes inside the plant.
    • Providing support with sales and the creation of proposals for Fleet Management including job costing.
  • Coordinate contractors that help SDM with specialized projects which would include reporting (Condition Assessments) and witnessing testing and some forensics.
  • Participate in the development of Substation monitoring R&D - SDMs Transformer Dashboard will be advancing, taking on more than just the gas and moisture readings.
  • Support and lead understanding of dry types and inspections/testing
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio
  • Entry level or 1-5 years’ experience in high voltage – substation with knowledge of the components beyond the transformer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiar with transformers, but also the other associated components in the substations such as CTs, PTs, fusing, relays, breakers and capacitors.
  • Strong technical writing
  • Strong Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Power Point and AUTO CAD
  • Job costing and project management
  • MS Word, Excel, and ability to use our internal computer systems such as Navision

Work Conditions:
  • This position is eligible for our Hybrid Remote Work Plan.
  • Most of the work for this position is conducted indoors, in a plant environment with potential non-toxic dust, fumes, noise or other conditions commonly present in an industrial/ manufacturing type facility.
  • Occasional work may be working outdoors with unpredictable weather conditions or at other vendors/customer sites consistent with an industrial/manufacturing type facility.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch throughout the work day
  • Ability to perform work at computer workstation for extended periods
  • Ability to lift materials/objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Extended weekly hours may occasionally be required to address peak workloads
  • Regularly required to talk, see, and hear
Travel as required up to 20% of the time
