Security-Part Time-Friday/Saturday AM Shift

I. BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Under general direction is responsible for monitoring all areas of Seacrest Village to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, family, guests and staff. Will greet and route guests, residents, family members and answer and route phone calls. Responds to emergency alarm call system for residents.

  • As needed available to respond through-out the shift for all GRC (independent living residents) needs/concerns and activated emergency alarm call system; assesses need for treatment (911). Make rounds throughout the campus internal and external buildings, monitoring all areas of Seacrest Village to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, family, guests and staff. Monitors parking facilities and vehicular traffic in accordance with department and company policy.

II. CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS SERVED BY POSITION:

Residents, family members, potential residents, guests, vendors, the community, staff and department heads and Federal and CA State regulators.

III. OUTCOME WHEN JOB IS DONE WELL:

Residents, guests, and potential residents and staff will receive messages promptly. Guests will be greeted and given all information as needed. Residents will receive immediate emergency response. Staff will receive messages/calls timely and accurately. Resident needs are met. A good impression of our facility is left with customer, guest, potential residents and clients. Residents feel safe in their apartment while living at Seacrest.

IV. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or equivalent. Security/emergency response course work desirable. First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

V. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum six (6) months reception/security for front desk office at hotel, hospital, retirement community or condo building with one (1) year in institution/residential security. Basic computer skills.

VI. SKILLS, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Excellent communication skills; telephone and written, ability to use busy switchboard, able to learn and use computer and programs. Ability to comprehend and fulfill requirements related to safety regulations, security procedures and policies acquired through on the job training. Good interpersonal skills in order to effectively resolve hostile situations. Knowledge of safety techniques such as fire extinguisher use. Able to read, write, speak and understand English language. Able to pass pre-employment physical, TB test and obtain fingerprint clearance as required by our licensure. Able to think and respond appropriately under pressure.

WORK PERFORMANCE – Job knowledge, quality, productivity, planning, creativity, initiative

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prominently stationed in the GRC/independent living building and available to respond through-out the shift for all GRC (independent living residents) needs/concerns and activated emergency alarm call system; assesses need for treatment (911).
  • Makes rounds of the internal and external buildings and parking lots
  • Responds to GRC/independent emergency situations in order to resolve any incident that could potentially harm personnel, residents and visitors. Calls for outside assistance as needed.
  • Responds to emergency call systems and fire alarms. Contains fire until fire department arrives and assists departments with moving residents and controlling crowds.
  • Inspect all areas of the facility for safety and fire hazards. Documents findings and notifies supervisor and safety committee.
  • Patrols all areas to assure doors are appropriately locked/unlocked at scheduled time intervals.
  • Monitors parking practices of employees, residents and visitors to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Escorts employees, residents and visitors to vehicles as requested.
  • Monitors and promotes compliance with facility policies and procedures such as solicitation and smoking.
  • Reports and conducts an investigation of items reported lost or stolen during shift.
  • Documents all incidents and emergencies in security log.
  • Maintain a high level or confidentiality regarding residents and staff of facility.
  • Contact staff as needed to respond to resident, family member, guest or staff needs.
  • Greeting and directing the paramedics when they arrive on our campus.
  • Providing fire drills and conducting in-service training as needed.

SECONDARY RESPONSBILITIES

  • Answer and route phone calls. Take messages for residents and staff.
  • Able to perform clerical work.
  • Take and process housekeeping and maintenance work orders and follow-up for completion.
  • Responds to the community at large as they enter the lobby. Communicates in a pleasant, friendly, helpful manner, COMMUNICATES INFORMATION clearly!
  • Distributes security access cards to residents/family, and takes requests for new or replacement cards.
  • Able to work flexible schedule as needed.
  • Make copies for residents at the copy machine
  • Appropriately uses the overhead paging system.
  • Distributes newspapers to residents through-out the facility.

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Adhere to employment application process – assures that applications are given for 1) open positions only and 2) applications do not leave the building – filled out in the facility.
  • Job Opportunities and announcements - updating from file and providing to applicant
  • Route all employment work references to HR including police, suphoneas, or visitors inquiring about our staff. Never give out any information about staff.
  • Distributes HR Mail to mailbox timely.
  • Ensure that all Agency private duty companions sign visitor log book at front desk

  • Regular, punctual attendance. Flexibility in schedule as it may include some weekends, evenings and holidays.

MISSION, VISION, POLICY AND REGULATIONS - SV Philosophy, judgment, adherence to policy, and regulatory requirements.

  • Familiarize self with Seacrest Village mission/vision, rules, policies and procedures and same with the Jewish Tradition as observed by our residents, family and guests.
  • Observes safety regulations; to include but not limited to wearing appropriate safety equipment, reporting work related injuries, using proper body mechanics, respond to fire/disaster alarms and wearing security access name badge at all times.
  • Follow timekeeping policy utilizing timeclock to record all hours worked to include mandatory meal period of thirty minutes by the 5th hour of work and OT is authorized by supervisor. Exception occurs when employee has signed on-duty meal period agreement and is paid for thirty (3) minute meal period due to the nature of the position.
  • Wear appropriate clothing per facility and department uniform policy; wear name badge at all times.
  • As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policy, applies “minimum necessary”, “needs to know” guidelines on all PHI information and reports non-compliance violations to Privacy Officer.
  • As a mandated reporter per DOJ requirements; attends Mandated Reporter Abuse training meetings, will report all abuse incidents; physical, emotional, financial, sexual, verbal, completing the 1) SOC 341 form, mailing or faxing, 2) calling the ombudsmen and/or department of health services; for Assisted Living and Independent Living, call ombudsmen, and APS (adult protective services), and 3) informing supervisor so resident can be protected.
Follow the corporate compliance standard and employee code of conduct, of performing work with an ethical behavior and utilizing proper business conduct and professional practice, that complies with applicable laws, rules and regulations; as serving the residents, preserving the organizational reputation, maintaining resident/employee trust, community respect. Reports non-compliance or concerns to Corporate Compliance Officer.

VIII. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:

Able to assist with minor maintenance/housekeeping functions.

X. WORKING REQUIREMENTS

Physical: Able to walk, sit or stand for several hours at a time, alternating stance that best suits the person’s ability to concentrate on the job duties of this shift period. Prolonged walking and standing (although not standing in one place for very long), in order to patrol facility area. Able to walk at good pace and with ease from front desk area clear around and across Seacrest Campus. Manual dexterity is necessary in order to document incidents and check locked doors. Reaching and grasping are necessary to escort uncooperative individuals off the facility grounds. Able to consistently lift and move up to 25lbs. Must be able to assist a caregiver or other person, in case of a potential resident fall emergency where the requirement is a two-person assist in lifting the resident to a safe position. Able to push equipment to include wheelchairs.

Mental/Visual: Able to make quick decisions and apply safety/security knowledge in emergency situations. Able to confront hostile situations and resolve tactfully and calmly. Able to describe or recognize persons or vehicles that may be involved in problems associated with facility safety and or security. Corrected vision needed.

Environment: Daily use of two-way radios, cell phone, computer and switchboard.
