Description

Position Summary 

SeamonWhiteside is in search of an ambitious and talented professional to serve as a Design Director in our growing Mount Pleasant, SC office.

SW is seeking a Civil Design Director who is a registered engineer with the highest level of design skills and will focus on the leading edge of design trends in the industry. They are a knowledge resource to the entire Civil Engineering department working in our Mount Pleasant office. The Design Director will assist in design development, oversight and provide feedback on site plan designs created by fellow engineers. In addition, this position will require vast knowledge of a wide range of complex designs from conception to completion.

This position will provide a heavy QA/QC presence as well as provide mentorship to Civil Practice Leaders, Directors, Team Leaders, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators. The Design Director reviews SW design standards and procedures and will lead trainings for the whole department when new practices are implemented.

Requirements

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform all skills defined in Civil Practice Leader job description at a high level of proficiency 
  • Heavily participates in QA/QC process
  • Continuously improve the civil design processes across SW
  • Assists in redline sets of plans and provide design oversight to civil engineering department
  • Review and direct SW design standards for civil engineering 
  • Coordinates with CA department on lessons from the field to continually update and improve detail standards 
  • Operate as a liaison between the CA department and Civil Engineering 
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations 
  • Proven record of leadership including inspiring others and motivating others 
  • Mentor Practice Leaders, Team Leaders, project managers, and project coordinators 
  • Finds and directs continuing education opportunities for the office and Civil Engineering community 
  • Provide critical and regular feedback to the innovation department based on design knowledge 
  • Mastery level in ICPR, WaterCAD, Civil 3D, SEDCAD, HEC-RAS, Hydraflow, google maps, storm sewers, microstation, Geopak, InRoads, IDEAL model

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field

Experience: 15 years of experience, Professional Engineering (PE) License

Desired Skills

  • Expert in Civil Engineering land design and permitting processes 
  • Expert in Microsoft and adobe suites
  • High level of understanding of drainage, road, water/sewer etc. 
  • Specialized design expert for the office or the organization at large
  • Leading/participating in panels and presentations inside and outside of the office
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement solutions
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the department 
  • Participate with professional organizations at a national, regional, and local level
