Seattle City Light is Hiring an Accounts Payable Accounting Technician II - BU Near Seattle, WA

Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The Accounting Technician II processes invoices, credit card transactions, and travel reimbursement transactions for payment processing; processes Event forms and maintains reports in Excel; responds to internal and external customer inquiries; provides C-Card and travel training, invoice payment assistance and back-up to the travel desk. Updates Accounts Payable process documents; performs and follows through independently with minimal guidance and effectively manages multiple complex tasks at any given time. This position will report to the Accounts Payable Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Here Is More About What You’ll Be Doing
  • Process invoices for timely payment to vendors and suppliers using the PeopleSoft system.
  • Audit invoice pricing and totals, account coding, tax rates, discounts, pricing of invoices against purchase orders, blanket contracts, or related encumbrances. Reconcile invoices with receiving ticket, packing slips or receipts in PeopleSoft.
  • Reconcile, review, verify, and correct entries, codes or documents prepared by others to ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Respond to vendors and suppliers, City employees, and other City departments, to answer inquiries regarding invoice status.
  • Work under minimal day-to-day guidance and perform multiple complex and responsible accounting supporting tasks, solving special problems, making reliable decisions, independently researching, analyzing facts, and presenting findings upon which important or costly decisions could be made.
  • Provide departmental procedures and guidelines to employees and vendors as they relate to Accounts Payable, Travel, employee expense reimbursements to ensure compliance with IRS regulations, City ordinances, collective bargaining agreements, general accounting and bookkeeping standards, and other state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Other special job duties and small projects as assigned.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: Requires two years accounting/bookkeeping experience or one year experience as an Accounting Technician I; (or a combination of education/training/experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Accounts Payable / Procurement Experience. Candidate should have two years of work experience in an Accounts Payable or Procurement work unit within the last five years.
  • Invoice Processing Experience. Demonstrate processing a high volume of invoices with a high level of accuracy (including non-Purchase Order, Two-way and Three-way Purchase Order match processing) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Employee Travel / Employee Reimbursement Experience. Ability to actively engage with staff across the organization to initiate and complete employee travel. Share resources and information with staff to increase process efficiency. Demonstrate experience in auditing and processing payments of employee travel advance requests and employee expense reports while adhering to policies and guidelines.
  • Credit Card Transaction Experience. Demonstrate experience in collaborating with others to effectively process and reconcile credit card transactions while adhering to policies and guidelines.
  • Accounting / Reconciliation Experience. Requires an understanding of basic accounting principles. Demonstrate general ledger knowledge and experience in reconciliation of accounting transactions.
  • Communication Skill. Demonstrate experience in providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers to establish, maintain, and enhance relationships. Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking, and presenting.
  • Technical Skill. Demonstrate experience working with large-scale information systems (ex. PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle, or Lawson). Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Other Skills. Self-starter, highly motivated, and results driven. Ability to meet strict deadlines. Ability to adapt to a continuously changing environment.

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $32.06 to $35.90 per hour.
