Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) is the City of Seattle’s long-term commitment to end institutional racism in City government. The RSJ Equity Advisor serves as portfolio lead over Seattle City Light’s workforce equity, employee engagement and education efforts and establishes and ensures the integrity and progress of the initiative within City Light.
This position will report to the Race & Social Justice Program Manager in the People & Culture business unit.
Job Responsibilities
Here Is More About What You’ll Be DoingWorkforce Equity (WE)
Lead the strategic implementation of Seattle City Light’s workforce equity portfolio.
Equity Analysis
  • Facilitate use of the City of Seattle Racial Equity Toolkit to guide project teams and decision-makers toward eliminating or mitigating WE disparities.
  • Review, evaluate, provide technical assistance, and make WE recommendations related to utility practices, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Draft, monitor, track, and update business cases, workplans, and project schedules as needed.
Advocacy
  • Make policy and resource recommendations and advocate for successful implementation of equity strategies.
Measure Impact
  • Co-create long-term outcomes, short- and mid-term metrics related workforce equity, employee engagement, and education.
  • Design and develop enterprise metrics, benchmarking methods, and reporting systems.
Employee Engagement
  • Interface and collaborate with utility leadership to resource and implement workforce equity programs, employee engagement activities, and events.
  • Organize, convene, facilitate, and/or collaborate with affinity groups, caucuses, and equity workgroups.
  • Maintain internal utility communications and websites related to the Race & Social Justice program.
  • Liaise with Seattle Office for Civil Rights, Seattle Department of Human Resources, and other Citywide interdepartmental teams on workforce equity initiatives and issues.
Employee Education
  • Design and operationalize RSJ training and learning opportunities for utility employees and leaders.
  • Curate and manage partnerships with vendors/consultants to perform facilitation, training, and other RSJ educational services.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: Education: Bachelor’s degree in sociology, political science, public administration, social services, social justice, or related fields (or a combination of equivalent education, training and/or experience to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
Experience: Seven years of experience developing and implementing programs that address institutional racism, environmental racism, diversity, equity, inclusion and/or social justice. This may include program design and implementation; delivering equity training; developing and implementing equity tools; applying an equity lens to programs and outreach/engagement strategies; managing an equity program or projects; or other relevant experience.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Understanding of the interconnections between climate change, green jobs, energy market transformation.
  • Experience developing and implementing learning plans.
  • Ability to see situations from several different lenses and angles in order to inform conclusions, demonstrating strong judgment while taking into account varied perspectives.
  • Experience implementing equity and inclusion programs and change initiatives within a complex organization.
  • Experience working with diverse teams, building strong relationships and influencing others.
  • Excellent cross-cultural oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills discussing and addressing issues regarding race, class and privilege.
  • Experience facilitating diversity, inclusion, race and/or privilege related training workshops, classes or curriculum development.
  • Experience with community and employee engagement and education.
  • Experience in meeting facilitation or group and individual mediation.
  • Experience planning and implementing events, trainings, and large-scale projects.
  • Extensive project management experience including strategy development, measurement and tracking.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines.

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $48.19 – $72.23 per hour.
