Seattle City Light is Hiring a Grounds Maintenance Crew Chief at Skagit Hydroelectric Project Near Rockport, WA

Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance Crew Chief to join the Power Production Division at the Skagit Hydroelectric Project, located approximately 120 miles northeast of Seattle along the Skagit River in Newhalem, WA. This position will plan, organize and direct the activities of a crew in the repair and maintenance of general grounds and facility maintenance equipment. The position will supervise and coordinate the work activities of the Maintenance Laborers. This position will report to the Skagit Construction & Maintenance Manager.
Job Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of supervisory techniques and equipment used in grounds maintenance programs;
  • Make decisions concerning organization, staffing, schedules and appropriate work procedures;
  • Personal contacts with the general public, department and community organizations, and a variety of public and private agencies in order to coordinate work activities, discuss and resolve sensitive issues and manage and promote relationships;
  • Train subordinates in technical and safety procedures; establish work standards; inspect and evaluate subordinates work;
  • Reviews plans for contracted work and in-house projects; provides coordination with other departments, utilities, and business requirements;
QualificationsRequired Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: Experience: Requires four years of parks, grounds or landscape maintenance experience which include two years of lead responsibilities, and requires the ability to supervise others (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Occasionally requires to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Work outdoors in all types of weather. Occasionally requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
Certification/License: Requires a Washington State driver's license. Washington State pesticide licensing is required after employment.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • Washington State pesticides license.
  • Strong training and supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with the general public.

The full salary range for this position is hourly rate $44.87 to hourly rate $48.47.
