Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking for a Stormwater Operations Engineer (Civil Engineer, Sr.) with a strong track record of success and extensive experience to support our Drainage and Wastewater Line-of-Business. As our Operations Engineer, you will be instrumental in optimizing the operational performance of our Drainage and Wastewater (DWW) system.? In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your engineering expertise and work collaboratively with a diverse team to manage drainage infrastructure to reduce flooding and improve water quality of Seattle's bodies of water, such as Lake Washington, Puget Sound, and local creeks and ponds. Job Responsibilities Key Responsibilities For This Role
Coordinate the operation of SPU’s stormwater flow control and water quality assets by proactively identifying and addressing potential issues or obstacles to project and/or operational success
Determine and implement strategies to optimize the performance of civil engineering projects through a high-level understanding of hydraulics, while maintaining accurate documentation and records of project progress and outcomes.
Coordinate with, and support field crew and planners to define inspection frequencies, maintenance triggers, and rehabilitation needs of stormwater assets to ensure optimal performance and to meet regulatory requirements
Manage the Drainage Rehabilitation Program which includes identifying projects and managing schedules and budgets
Provide expert guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians

QualificationsEducation/Experience: Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years professional civil engineering experience ORIn lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited program, nine (9) years of civil engineering work experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer may be substituted. There is no equivalency for the PE license. AdditionallyAll Candidates will need to possess the following required qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington
Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
Desired Skills/Experience
Proven experience in managing civil engineering projects, preferably in a municipal setting
Good working knowledge of hydraulic principles related to stormwater system infrastructure and stormwater system operations
Experience in stormwater and system planning, design, construction, and utility asset management
Knowledge of the operation of stormwater system components such as control valves, weirs, orifices, and pumps, etc.
The ability to write clear and concise technical reports in a timely manner
Demonstrated ability to successfully work well and collaborate with others in a team environment, delivering complex multiyear projects
Additional Information This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office a minimum of twice a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor and may be subject to change based on business needs.
