Iowa Orthopaedic Center PC is Hiring a Hybrid Second Opinion Coordinator Near Des Moines, IA

Iowa Orthopedic Center is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our team as the Second Opinion Coordinator .The role is responsible for assisting the patient in obtaining prior treatment medical records and imaging required by Iowa Ortho physicians to schedule an appointment. The Second Opinion Coordinator will be responsible for keeping consistent open lines of communication with the Triage nurse staff and patients regarding the status and expectations of required records, communicating in a timely, courteous, and compassionate fashion, maintaining a highly organized work area, and be able to pay close attention to detail. Our full-time position is Monday through Friday, with clinic hours. After completing the training period, this position offers a hybrid work arrangement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receiving ROI's sent into Iowa Ortho by method of fax, email, text or dropping off at one of our locations.
  • Indexing ROI's to the patients chart and faxing to the appropriate medical facility requesting records.
  • Maintain worklist tasks with consistent updates, with detailed documentation and follow up dates.
  • Maintain patient communication regarding records received, still awaiting records/imaging, appointment changes etc.
  • Explain procedures and policies regarding mandatory records and imaging prior to appointments.
  • Maintain communication with Triage nurses regarding missing records for upcoming appointments and next steps.
  • Prepare 2nd opinion packets by using packet building guidelines provided and maintained by Triage leadership.
  • Provide completed packet to Triage RN for review & writing of synopsis and approval/denial document.
  • Print and deliver packets to providers' desk - or- electronically based on provider preference.
  • Assisting Triage nurses and back office staff in obtaining records or imaging for upcoming appointments needed for the appointment.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Ability to work remotely and be efficient in production.
  • While this position can be a hybrid home/office position, the ability to come in office on a scheduled rotation or as requested by leadership is mandatory.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic telephone & computer skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Medical terminology for reading; ability to interpret records for Release of Information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people.

  • Ability to talk to and give instructions to patients, providers and other medical facilities on the importance of obtaining medical records efficiently.
  • Fingering skills to operate computer terminal.
  • Ability to sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to read for up to eight (8) hours a day.
