The Details:
Location: Hybrid work Headquartered in Downtown Seattle
Work Schedule: Our typical business hours are 8:30-5:00 PT Monday-Friday.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10%

About the Position:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director of Benefits Plan Design will lead the development and implementation of a strategic approach to health and retirement benefits that enhance the quality, value and equitable access to services for plan members. By leveraging data insights to monitor plan performance, the Director will identifying opportunities for improvement and partnering with carriers, vendors and other stakeholders to implement impactful change that drive financial and wellness outcomes. Success in this position will require close collaboration with partners, contractors, vendors, participating employers, SEIU 775 and various internal and external stakeholders to advance initiatives that improve member benefits and overall plan effectiveness.
You Will:
- Design and implement an innovative benefits strategy that challenges conventional approaches and enhances both financial and wellness outcomes for members, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities;
- Build and lead a high-performing team responsible for managing carrier and vendor partnerships, driving successful initiatives, and using benefit plan analytics to measure effectiveness;
- Provide strategic leadership and hands-on project management to support key program initiatives, ensuring coordination and alignment among internal teams, external contributors, stakeholders and partners;
- Manage and optimize the department budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic goals;
- Leverage data analytics of plans, claims and benefit utilization trends to identify opportunities for plan improvement, to close care gaps and enhance overall plan performance;
- Ensure that benefit operations deliver high-quality services, offering accessible and comprehensive care and retirement support, to meet the needs of workers;
- Establish and maintain standard operating policies, processes and best practices for the department to ensure consistency and efficiency;
- Leverage technology, research, incentives, contract cycles, and plan design to foster sustainable, population-specific change in benefit utilization, enhancing value at a reduced costs;
- Develop tools to measure the impact of strategic initiatives, focusing on improvements in value, access and service quality of benefit and track the success of member engagement;
- Provide transparent, comprehensive reporting to the board on key business metrics, including but not limited to operations, income, expenses and strategic product initiatives;
- From time-to-time be assigned other duties commensurate with the level of this position.

- Bachelor’s Degree such as benefit administration or equivalent work experience in lieu of education;
- 5-8 years of experience in employer benefit plan management, benefit consulting, and/or retirement or health plan administration;
- 5 experience in large benefit plan management, strategic planning, complex contract procurement, evaluation and monitoring performance;
- The ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives, while also running small-scale programs to pilot new ideas and refine approaches;
- Ability to leverage engagement and claims data to identify trends and opportunities to improve population wellbeing and plan performance;
- Proven experience in leading, managing and developing teams in an inclusive and equitable way that drives collaboration to achieve goals;
- Demonstrated track record of successfully moving projects from concept to implementation and evaluation phases, to ensure measurable outcomes;
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex implementations;
- Strategic agility in identifying and resolving problems using analytics, industry knowledge and sound judgement;
- The ability to negotiate with stakeholders and vendors to ensure alignment with goals and secure favorable outcomes;
- The ability the thrive autonomously, navigate ambiguity and quickly adapt to evolving priorities;
- Proven technological proficiency with the ability to quickly adopt and integrate of new technologies;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
It Will be Great if You Have:
- Experience working with Taft Hartley trusts;
- Experience working with a Board of Trustees;
- Experience with retirement plan administration;
- Experience with self-funded insurance plan administration;
- Familiarity with ERISA rules and regulations.
Salary Range:
- $$117,172.77 to $159,694.46
