ANNUAL SALARY: $91,872

LOCATION: Washington, DC (Headquarters)

PURPOSE: This position is an experienced HR Generalist with a strong background in talent acquisition. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the full recruitment life cycle, from sourcing and screening candidates to conducting interviews and making hiring decisions in collaboration with the hiring manager. In addition to talent acquisition responsibilities, the HR Generalist will also provide support in various HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, training and development, and HR compliance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

  • Talent Acquisition:
    • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract top talent;
    • Source candidates through various channels, including job boards, social media, networking events, and employee referrals;
    • Screen resumes and conduct initial phone screenings to assess candidates’ qualifications;
    • Coordinate and conduct interviews with hiring managers to evaluate candidates’ fit for the position and company culture;
    • Manage the offer process, including negotiating salary and benefits packages;
    • Conduct background checks and reference checks for potential hires;
    • Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
  • HR Administration:
    • Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures;
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records;
    • Handle employee onboarding and orientation processes;
    • Provide guidance and support to employees on HR-related issues;
    • Assist in employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions as needed;
    • Assist with performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans as needed.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations;
    • Stay informed about changes in employment laws and update policies and procedures accordingly;
    • Assist in conducting investigations into employee complaints or violations of company policies as needed.
  • Training and Development:
    • Assist in identifying training needs and developing training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge;
    • Coordinate training sessions and workshops as needed.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING: This position reports to the Director of Human Resources or their designee and is required to coordinate with multiple stakeholders. The incumbent is expected to be self-motivated and able to work independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent experience. Four (4) years of related experience in Human Resources, preferably in a labor organization or a progressive organization or a combination of equivalent education and experience. SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus but not required. All candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Proven experience as an HR Generalist with a focus on talent acquisition.
  • Strong understanding of full cycle recruitment processes and best practices.
  • Experience using applicant tracking systems (ATS) and other HR software.
  • Skill in the use of modern office equipment including personal computers and associated SEIU software, including the Microsoft Office and Google product suites.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Irregular and extended hours are occasionally required. Some travel may be required.
